@wore out, The way it works is functional ABS brakes on a trailer will work independent of the tractor, drawing power from brake light circuit, the light on the side of the trailer should flash once when the brake lights are activated, if it's working correctly.

Thanks for the link. According to the video, the ELD connects to the data port via hardware and the smart phone connects the ELD via bluetooth. Do you use this product? What happens when:
1. you leave the truck and take your smart phone with you?
2. you want to use your blue parrot headset while your driving?
3. you get a phone call? -
Say the Elog thingy only costs $20/month. NY had to stop charging for HUT decals and refund our money and that was only $10 every couple of years. So no..."low cost" isn't an argument to keep it in placeOxbow Thanks this.

I use the jj keller system which works the same way.
1: go off duty and log out. Log back in and reconnect when i get back into truck. This is the easiest way. If i forget and walk out of range it can be a pain to get the blue tooth connection back. Users of a blue parrott headset will know exactly what i mean.
2: do it all the time and doesn't interfere.
3: does not interfere.
Rank the part on your smart phone is no different than most apps. You only use it to change duty status, add comments, location, etc.
Ny lost that not because of money, but because of interstate commerce laws. Same deal with the alabama coil certification. Elogs is a federal thing, not a state thing.Last edited: Mar 7, 2017
rank Thanks this. -
That's what I mean. Money should not be used in arguments of right or wrong. Whether or not the Elogs are deemed affordable by someone has no bearing on anything.

But that's really the only arguement against them. As your aware, the hours of service don't change for elog or paper. The elog just tattles on you if you break those hos rules. we can't stand in front of a senator and say 'the elog mandate needs overturned cause it keeps me from running illegal'.
Edit to add: i think at this point in the game our focus needs to be on getting some flexibility back in the hos.Last edited: Mar 7, 2017
wore out Thanks this. -
Cluttering up the dash, distracting by alarming while driving, possible interference problems with other electronics neccesary for truck operation (ecms, tcms, etc).
Also, something else to keep working. -
Did you not understand the example I gave you about your cheese applying machine at your company Mega Pizza Inc?
If Mega Pizza chooses to use a machine in their business that's fine but that business should not be able to bribe the government into making a law mandating that theircompetitor.......Jim's Pizza Shop..... MUST use a cheese machine. Jim doesn't need the expense or hassle. Jim counts his cheese just fine. Jim is not breaking any laws. Why should the govt tread on Jim just because Mega Pizza's employees can't apply cheese?
Same argument for speed limiters by the way -
To make sure nobody gets any extra cheese, or cheats on there cheese
