One fatal accident with an automated truck will shut the whole thing down...lawyers will love that payday.

I think about it a lot and I also speak with my wife about it a lot.

I grew up with technology since the 80's and I am a very big geek as my main hobby.

I believe in technology and I believe that they'll pull it off someday.

I've been driving for 27 years and I hope I'm wrong or I hope that it'll be a long time before they unemploy a ton of drivers. Trucking is all I know and at age 48 it's scary and difficult to imagine what else I could do to support my family.

I mostly just block it out and think that we'll always be needed but I'm not so certain.

    Take care!

How will autonomous trucks Crank Dolly legs?

How will they spot a cracked rim

    How will they check lights?

How will they cut a seal at those shippers who refuse to?

same with opening and closing doors

Here is one of the opinions of a "researcher" at Stanford University that is promoting this HOGWASH:

“Long-haul truck driving is a great example, where there isn’t much judgment involved and it’s a fairly controlled environment,” Kaplan said.

If you want to read the rest of the propaganda, here it is:
    http://www.latimes.com/projects/la-fi-automated-trucks-labor-20160924/

I have lived a lifetime reading and hearing about predictions like this. And attended events like the NY World's Fair in 1964-65. One of my favorites to come out of that fantasy was " Electricity produced by the atom will be so cheap that it will no longer be worthwhile to have meters to charge for it. "

If you want to read a great book on the subject: Your Flying Car Awaits by Paul Milo available at
    Amazon.

You have a TTR full of good and espeically bad things against OTTOS.

Ive tried hard to find good things about it. I am impressed a little bit. But then I think about a good 5 foot winter storm with valley rain and ice covering the sensors on that OTTO and off Sandstone she goes. SLLLIPPPP!

Oh right, no one chained Ottos because the computer does not chain itself. Hum.... derrr.... or duh or whatever ya know?

Or.... several terrorist cars can intercept a Otto running a 8000 gallon propane tanker in a specifc part of our interstate during a ball game with 80,000 guests not far away and game the Otto into severely crashing and weaponized load explodes. KABOOM Terrorists strike again with mass casulties as in tens of thousands dead,

Tell me this grasshopper you want a robot truck to put you out of work and no job? That's coming.

How much skill will a driver have if they're sitting there 99℅ of the time when they need to take over the wheel?

I have to agree partly with @x1Heavy on this one. The government thinks we got Isis issues now. Just wait till they can sit in their cave thousands of miles away in the middle of a mountain range in some of their country and control about two dozen of these so-called self-driving I can't even call it a truck completely ridiculous idea. I digress anyway yeah hackers are going to love this there's not enough firewalls or preventative this that or the other if it's got a computer and a motherboard it can get hacked and I'm sure they will and as far as accidents going down due to automated vehicles and I think that's complete farce. I would not ever feel safe in front of next to behind riding in standing on top of one of these............ things for a lack of a better term actually when I really think about it it scares the piss out of me not for fear of losing my job but I've seen all the Terminator movies more than enough times now I'm not out in la-la land but robots controlling themselves controlling robots running on a pre-scripted schematic for turn-by-turn direction happens if a wire gets crossed for a satellite goes down or hell half of the Eastern seaboard shuts down like it did back in 2003 are these things going to go dark are they going to go off on their own blindly trying to navigate through traffic yeah it scares me when I think about it something goes screwy with the computer and all the sudden the gas tanker besides to bank a hard left right into a shopping mall grocery store or God forbid a school freaks me out......... tell you what if I start ever considering getting into a different industry I'll be finding my as@ getting into Auto Insurance because it's going to go through the roof with these things they're still way too much red tape just the insurance end of it alone you have to consider what really could possibly and will un preventively go wrong and it's not a matter of if my fellow drivers it's about when because the lawsuits will Skyrocket not to mention the amount of insurance that a company will have to have for just one of these shi@y self-driving Tonka trucks will be incredible everybody wants to talk about the good things that this will do how great this will be and how positive in taking steps forward with technology I said boo I want to hear about the damage and it destruction and the points and concerns that the people involved from the investors all the way back to the guy that brings into coffee and donuts for the design team on this ticking time bomb don't want people to think about or that keep them up at night thinking about I'm not saying that we will eventually get there but I think some really bad things are going to come of this unfortunately and I'm sorry to say this but I believe a good handful or two of lives will be lost on this path now that's it I've rambled enough complete shenanigans shenanigans shenanigans shenanigans
