Yes, I already have my permit and medical card. I drove a straight truck years ago then finnished college and went into the banking industry. We all know where that is now. Any advice on how to get a good trainer?

Trucking may follow banking! Your not the only one jumping into trucking. It would appear to me everyone loosing their job is trying to hop on a truck.

Trucking company stocks are PLUMMETING.
Just my take. I came to this site 5/08 looking to get on. Haven't done it yet.

Well to answer your question about the AC they are not required by fed regs to fix it that is not considered an out of service thing most companies will fix it for the drivers as they know if it is really hot in that truck they will not keep drivers.
If the truck is overheating that is a serious issue if it does not get fixed. -
Well, Wayne paid for a hotel last night because at 11pm, they had not finished fixing the truck. He had a nightmare day and was tired. He got exactly 96 miles out yesterday. He was going to stop at the local TA but the company told him no. They wanted him to driver there and turn the truck around because they didn't want to pay to fix it! We are talking about the Grapevine here. It took him 5 hours to get the truck back to the terminal in Fontana. First they said it was a easy fix and would only take 15 minutes....lmao...After a 2 hour wait, they said it was something else and would take another 3 hours or more to fix. After cooking in the heat for 8-9 hours that day, Wayne had enough. He got a room ($50) and something to eat and went to bed. Hopefully, they have the truck done and can get him another load out today. What a first day on his own.

SO, he's working, supposedly, but instead of making money he's paying out money, $50.00 plus.

If I'm not mistaken he can't quit because he probably went to their school and owes them for the training.
Correction: He can quit but he still's owe's them the money for the training. Is this training thing some kinda scam????? This is "WAYOUT".Last edited: Oct 2, 2008

He can quit, but he'd owe them for the school. Yep, we are minus $50. He does not get paid for any of the miles he did. He is not a happy camper, but will try again. Hopefully this time, the truck does not go down. Why they don't test these trucks to see if anything is wrong is beyond me. I have talked to him this morning and he is in better spirits. This is trucking. If you are over the road, the truck goes down, you do not get paid. We are only dealing with this for 2 months anyway. His trainer who is on the Dole dedicated, has asked him if he wants to team with him. He has decided to take the offer but he has to be with the company for 9o days before he can go with him. His trainer is a L/O so you still have to go by the companies rules about the 3 months and you can become a L/O, even if Wayne isn't the actually L/O. He was getting great miles with his trainer and they got along great. He was figuring up what he would have made running with his trainer and it would have been about $1100-$1400 a week and he was able to see us every week on his way through.

Wolfden, I"m sorry to hear about Wayne's bad day. What kind of truck is he driving (or trying to drive)?
-
This is not just a bad day. This is a nightmare come true.
What, trucking companies have no responsibility to a driver/employee. They have no motivation to "do the right thing" except that they would rather have the truck working and delivering rather than not. They are not motivated by having to pay a driver for sitting, spending money on expensive food and a motel room. They should have to pay min. wage, that would make them make sure that trucks worked properly. "MY $%^&' % God", what is going on in America. We have gone back to the 20th century, no we have gone back to the 19th century.
I would tell you to write your representatives but in Nevada they are nothing but a bunch of ### kissing, scum bribed by business, so they will do nothing from the very start. The whole political system are bought and paid for by business in Nevada probably more than any where. -
Wayne is driving a Volvo with about 650,000 miles on it. They got it fixed and he will be heading to Phoenix here in the next few minutes. He had to wait for the load to show up. He already has a load waiting for him in Phoenix to goto OK and then to Indiana. So, it's not too bad on miles, but he needs more.....lol...He said the truck is running fine for now. His old trainer was at Fontana today and he got to talk to him for a few. He is still set to go back with him and team in 2 months. His trainers truck was down for repairs but he was getting a loaner truck to keep going. Why can't company drivers do that?
As for Nevada, yes, Nevada sucks. They do absolutly nothing for workers here. It's a right to work state. They could care less about workers or basically, anyone in this state. I have been fighting for my child support for 6 years in this state and they always screw me. I haven't even got child support in 7 months because my ex told the court (which they never bothered to notify me was taking place), that i no longer had the kids. He had to show no proof. They never even asked him why, or if it was true, why he didn't have them? They closed my case and he got off scott free! So after not getting a thing for 2 months, i contact them and ask why and they told me what happened in court. WTF? They believed him after being caught in numerous lies for 5 years! So now, the burden of proof is on me! I have to prove, i have the kids! WTF? Where would they be if i didn't have them or him? On the side of the road? He has to prove nothing, but i do? So yes, Nevada screws everyone. Sorry for ranting, but proving a point that it's not just workers, it's the whole state. We would move, but my ex refuses to sign for us to leave.
Wayne is sticking with trucking. He's just waiting for his 2 months, then he is on to something better with his trainer. We will survive. No trucking company is responsible to pay for stuff like this unless you are hourly. We knew this coming in and will deal. Good thing for us, our rent isn't expensive and it will take only minimal miles to pay bills. -
It's good to rant. It gets it out of the system.

Move across the river you may get further with complaint's to rep's. It's probably cheaper too.
I do hope it works out with Central and what happened was just one of the many flukes of trucking. Jumping are from company to company has to suck. And they probably know it.
