Hi all, this morning I was pulled into weigh station for a Level II inspection on Rt 93 in New Hampshire. Everything came up good but in the report I was given at the bottom there is a line that reads "Special Checks" and the officer filled in "Alcohol Substance Check" although I wasn't given a sobriety or urine test nor asked if I was drinking. Anyone know what this is? My truck wasn't searched and I wasn't asked what was in small plastic container on passenger side floor where I keep cleaning supplies. I have never seen this before.

By the way I hit my 1 year anniversary as a trucker this past Monday. No violations, incidents or accidents. Hope I didn't jinks myself.

As long as there is no indication you failed it's probably an oversight by the officer or he is just pencil-whipping that part of the inspection.

A real alcohol check you blow into a little plastic box with a short straw.

When questioned the man would say he used his training to do the substance check.....

You passed so it's a win for you...:)

Might have been using you to meet his quota. Fact is, so many law enforcement officers face such high quotas that many just lurk around looking for the smallest infractions (even making things up) to meet it. Officers have testified to this. Focus on small quantity rather than large quality. Rather than protecting the public they become predators and prey upon it. Not all go this way though. The best and the brightest are leaving the force by choice of by coercion. But I digress. Pardon me.

Could be any reason for it, but if he isn't indicating that he had reason to perform it it won't cause you any problems.

I tell you a little secret.

A very basic check of impairment (Im not a doctor... cya) anyways is to move a object or a finger in front of your eyes. If nothing is inside of you your eyes smoothly follow whatever it is they locked on. without you moving head.

If you are got someting inside like pain medicine narcotic, beer, drinks, drugs etc etc etc or certain SPECIFIC medical issues then you have bouncing eyes trying to move and follow the object or finger. They simply bounce jerk and fail to do it smoothly.

In addition your pupils will pinpoint. It wont matter if smokeybear is shining his lights into them they will stay pinpoint. Me I am a dialater so I get big for night viewing rather than pinpointing even though enough medicine will cause me to do that in the day. (I got eye issues seperate than drugs) There isnt much reaction.

Chemical supplies is a precursor to meth and other rapid made drugs and it's best not to have certain items in your cab, Im so obselete now but one example will be large steel wool or copper pipe cleaners that are used to defend the pipe smoking against the heat of the flame and smoke etc. So there is none of that in the truck in my time. No mouth wash with alcohol either. All other products have nothing that can be converted to alcohol or drugs inside of you. That way there nothing that can be used against you during inspection.

Check your frame rails and other hidden areas reagularly you never know if a mexican shoves a baggie somewhere on you and have someone follow you a while to retrieve it when you stop for fuel away from police downtown.

Ah, New Hampshire... 'Live Free or Die!'.... Unless there's a law against that. :)
