Problem is I'm going home March 31st. It will have been 8 weeks out. I have a table tennis tournament the following weekend that I need to get some practice for.
Finally got my own truck

Staying out 8 weeks at a time doesn't always net better results. You can make great money, and be home every weekend. You need to find your niche.rollin coal Thanks this. -
Maybe. And you know something, I haven't had the greatest luck with weekend loads, either. Seems like everything is cheap on Fridays no matter where you are or where a load is going.
I'll be empty in Joplin tomorrow and loads are posted $1.60 to Florida. Lol. -
If I ran 3000 all miles and gross $6,000, I'd be netting only $2400.
2500 all miles at $4700 gross is only $1500 net. That ain't good enough. Not nearly good enough. I aim for $2500 net if I can. $2000 is bleh.
$800/week for truck and ins, $400/week for trailer and cargo/liability, $200/week for maintenance fund and $100/week for tags, IFTA, etc. This does not include personal taxes.
This is based on 45 weeks out of the year. So 7 weeks off is free. I've pretty much already taken 3, including the first week of the year I wasn't ready to run yet, then I took first week of February off, them last week I only did one run.
45 cents per mile right now for fuel and def, plus the company I work for gets 12℅ of gross.
You can do all the math. -
Friday loads have been jacked like that for a long time. It's backwards of how it should be, or used to be a few years ago, and I have no explanation for it but Fridays have been lousy a long time now on my lanes.
However, end of the month and end of the quarter has always remained solid even in bad times. Consider the end of quarter and/or end of the month as 12 days to always get above averge rates. Well above average. I get being burnt out and needin to go home but for sure you need to schedule yourself to be working on those days in the future. You really can't afford to be missing out on 12 of the best days of the year. Those 12 days could possibly equal out 24 or more days of your ordinary, typical daily cash flow.
And yep I did get screwed over by that broker. Can't get him on the phone Been one big bust of a week. But it's still dead out here and that's the chance I took trying to make something hsppen. -
Holy crap you are getting ripped on the insurance. I pay $800 a month. The other guy pays $1500 a month but he has a 2016 Volvo 780. That is for everything
-
Thats $800/ week for truck payment and ins,so $3200 a month. Payment for his truck is at least $2500 a month
-
Truck is 2595/Mo and non-trucking, collision and lease gap is $457/mo.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Not to be rude, but that truck payment is killing you. Your a slave to the truck. Most guys I know, start out with smaller payments on a good used truck, then upgraded once established. I don't envy what you are doing. But since you chose this direction, you now have to work within those parameters. I wish you luck, it's a hard road. Sacrifices will have to be made.
Dwardell662, Lepton1, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this. -
