let's not forget it is just beginning. The first calendar quarter. Many of you refuse to work or do it part time, he has been getting nice revenues already. Better earnings than a company driver. So he seems to know what to do. Yes, the truck payment is a ##### but it is better to make payments on that than...hmmm...let's say a speed boat, I think.

To be honest I don't really know. I have heard all kinds of reasons over the years from getting inventory off the books before a new month or quarter to tax reasons. Those seem logical. It's just one of those things I always try to point out to newer operators who don't know so they can try and better their own situation. The only reason I know it is because I read guys mention it in posts here and found it to be true when I applied it to my own operation. I always latch onto nuggets of info like that when I come across it.

One aspect of the end of month/quarter/year surge in shipping has to do with inventory management. Shippers like to get product out the door and be able to bill it. That way they show lower inventory and larger accounts receivable. On the other hand receivers don't book that as inventory until the product is received in their warehouse. Meanwhile receivers don't show it as accounts payable until they receive the invoice.

This means that product in transit is in inventory limbo, to the benefit of the shipper and the receiver. Truckers may often find that getting an early appointment to deliver is impossible if you are under load in this situation.

Ended up getting a load to PA for $1.90/mi. Scranton area.

I'll end up with $6015 gross on 2970 all miles. Meh...Sigh...

It's about inventory taxes. They have to pay taxes on the value of product still sitting on their property. It's a complicated formula but it basically breaks down to they save money by getting it shipped out before the end of the quarter.

2.02 a mile. Not burning a trail to the bank but that could be profitable numbers.
