Ok, so hear me out, and respond if you like....

I'm disgusted by many in this industry, and it's no wonder the public perception of trucking is pure hatred. And in actuality, most of the problems are created by megas or drivers...

I'm currently posted up at a pilot and have been for the last 8 hours. Let me explain my beautiful experience... I get here and grab a spot, jump out to go piss in the bathroom, like a normal person.

    Lot smells like piss, horribly.

Well great, what's new...dude's can't walk 100 feet to pee inside.

So I'm at the subway later on, standing behind a big dude. Smell is that of a pig on a farm on a sweltering day in Texas. Guaranteed hasn't showered in a week. Dirty, disgusting, and downright rude to the cute little subway girl. What a shame. Can't imagine being that rude to anyone, let alone a very nice, young individual probably on their first job.....well, whatever.

Go outside with my sandwich to eat in the truck. Walking to my truck, stepping over trash that someone couldn't walk 20 feet to throw away...I see 3 company trucks from a mega parked next to each other and the 3 drivers, presumably, standing out front talking.

What's wrong with that you ask? Well, I'm not a small dude, maybe 200lbs, but I felt like I needed to get to the truck ASAP. These guys are "mean-mugging" everyone, looking like gangsters, and generally not dudes you choose to mess with. Get to my truck, shut the curtains, and shut out the world. Thank God.

Question is are the megas recruiting in the prisons now? I mean, what has this industry come to.

Mega recruiter to inmate - "I can get your sentence reduced if you come drive this truck for a year"

Inmate - "okay, are there any rules I gotta follow?"

Recruiter - "only HOS, we'll explain later, other than that, drive the truck. Dress, talk, and act as you wish".

    Inmate "I'm in."

I'm saddened and disgusted by many. We deliver all the goods to America. We should be looked at as an invaluable industry. Instead we are looked at as scum.

    Sad sad sad.....

    What's your point?

I mean did you complain to the guy in front of you that he stinks?

Did you pick up the garbage and put in into the trash?

Did you tell the manager that his lot stunk like piss?

I've put up with this crap for years and gave up telling others what they should do, like don't throw out piss jugs or dump them on the ground. I think if all of you want to complain, then it starts with doing something about it, see someone pissing on the fuel isle, walk up and take a picture of it and call the cops. If you see someone tossing out a piss jug, take a picture of it and send it to their company and the truck stop manager.

The problem isn't with those who do it, it is with those who don't so a thing to stop it.

It's absence of professionalism, common decency, courtesy, and an industry where mega carriers have become too big. Parked the other day, and while stretching to go for a jog, I watch a tanker driver carry his dog to the grass and then proceed to urinate on his tire while the dog sniffed around. Guy looked like a Larry the Cable Guy rejected stunt double and of course you know he didn't bother to pick up after his dog after either.

    Agree and disagree...

The problem 100% is the fault of those who do it.

I will pick up a piece of trash or two if it's not too disgusting. I'm not taking a picture of a dude peeing.

Edit...and no real point. Just my thoughts

Actually it is all of our fault, we are supposed to be professionals or some of us would like to be, so it starts with self-policing this profession.

Ain't willing to take a picture of someone pissing at the fuel isle, then don't complain about when you get out of your truck and step in it, thinking that it is a puddle of water.

Don't want to pick up trash or not tell someone else who just threw it out the window to pick it up, then don't complain.

you ever call a company because of a driver?

I have and don't mind telling people about it, especially when they do things that are illegal or dangerous.

I'd say the problem is equally spread. You can contact carriers concerning driver behavior, and they don't care (been there done that). You can even approach the driver and the general answer is "I do it my way". As far as the manager of the truck stop, even if you report it to him, he's unlikely to be able to do anything.

Called in and reported and reported an incident concerning ROEHL recently as well as SWIFT. ROEHL's response was that they would look into it, but there were likely contributing factors of which I was unaware. SWIFT denied that the event could have happened, stating they only hire the most professional, highly skilled, and courteous drivers in the industry.

It isn't only the mega's driver who do these things. Ex.: I watched an o/o pulling out of the t/s at exit 117 on I-75 in GA. AS he drove he was pouring piss out of a quart plastic jug. It is just a sorry butt society we live in these days.

Well, according to some here, if the industry paid better, it would only attract and retain the more "professional" drivers. So there's your solution. Easy peezy

$$$$ Definitely a factor. How does anyone overcome the sorry attitude so many people have? No real work ethic etc etc.

Yea, and the good ol' days of giving somebody an "attitude adjustment" or "come to Jesus meeting" are long gone.
