hauling reefers

    Hi im thinking about working for kllm and i was wondering what to expect hauling reefers. any insight would be great thanks.

    You should avoid reefer at first. There are too many headaches in reefer running that a green driver may not be able to put up with. Sure, it's possible a newbie could get a job at a reefer company and succeed, but it's not probable. And when you're green, you need to like your job enough to stay at it for a solid year before going elsewhere. It's awfully hard to like reefer for 12 weeks, let alone 12 months. Improve your odds by going dry box when you first start out. You can always go with reefer later after you get some experience in.

    The other thing, if you insist on going with refers, try to get with a company that runs the quiet ones. It's annoying to say the least trying to sleep with regular ones.

    Be ready for long waits and really weird driving hours...more than usual anyway. when you fuel the truck fuel the reefer too. and you will have to pit stop more to check the unit

    I pulled areefer for 7-8 years,One load you gotta find a place to buy pallets and then next load is already on pallets,so you gotta find a place to sell your pallets. It's next to impossible to find a pallet place at 2:00 am in the middle of nowhere. You have to count your freight on and off or those crooked *&%### wil short you,and mind you, you're standing in a freezer or cooler waiting to count it.( I kept a cold most of the time)
    Shippers wil load product that is not cold enough,so you have to check that too. There is usually a weight issue,especially if your loads has several different types of products on it.Places that load chicken willl load it on busted pallets,then you gotta pay on the other end to have them re-stack it on good wood.If you have a lay over or home time with a load,you're not really "off duty" cause you gotta keep a check on the reefer temp.
    I hope I never have to pull another reefer

    I pulled reefers with Central Ref. for my 1st two months of training and what a freakin nightmare... as described above. If you want to make more...pull flatbeds. I would stay away from reefers myself. (Well, I AM staying away from them cause I don't plan to drive them again...lol).

    If you all get called in for testing in the next few days, you'll know who's reading these posts... lol. Now highballin's my age so he knows we only gotta wait another... what? ... 20 years to retire and think about that again? heheh
