old thread, I know. But this is relevant to my question. I had my cat dealer uprated my factory 475 6nz to 550. Not sure what file. But my boost is only 22.5 lbs tops. And my cat guy says that is what it is supposed to be. told me I could pinch off the waste gate hose to get a little more. 1. Do I have a problem

You should be about 28-32 psi with a 550 flash.
Your low. Could be week spring in wastegate. Or possible leak in air to air.
I never recommend pinching off wg.
Id get it checked out. -
what's got me scratching my head is the cat guy I deal with said 22psi is normal?

Cat will upgrade your ecm to a 550 BUT it will be the low nox file. You need to go elsewhere to get a "Pre low nox
" file. And you will need an upgraded Borg Wagner Turbo, depend how much you want in horsepower, depends on the turbo upgrade. Stage one turbo is a standard for an 550 upgrade. There is many tweaks that can be done to get more out of a CAT. But we are limited what can be discuss in this forum.SAR Thanks this. -
22 psi is not normal. Your cat guy is wrong.
You dont need a stage 1 borg warner either. Your stock turbo on your 6nz is fine for a 550 flash.SAR and Diesel Dave Thank this. -

Correction; I was referring to my set up. A stock 550 file will handle that stock turbo. Mine is tweak quite a bit. 550 BS file with 57's program but I'm running 58's. Along with running hotter fls/fts numbers. I needed the upgraded stage 1 compare to what my motor was born with. 435. And since I'm in Commiefornia, even with the bigger after market DPF, I'm still limited with the sniffer test. I can upgrade my ecm to more but like I said, Im limited.
