Why should you have any input? It’s not your equipment that was damaged. They have the right to have it repaid to the same condition it was in before.
If someone hits your car do you think they should have any input on where you have it repaired and how much the repairs are?
Every trailer that goes under one of those drops the snow right under it. Common sense says that it will get snow built up under it and you need to check the height before using it.
What if the pavement was clear and the last trailer just happened to be lower than this one? Your driver would have still hit it as he didn’t bother to check the clearance.
You would punish the customer for providing a means of clearing the trailer of snow for you which is NOT something they are required to do. If you did succeed in forcing them to pay some of it you can bet they will just remove the scarper or restrict access to it for just their own trucks.
You should have some insurance for covering damage to trailers you haul that are not your own (trailer interchange insurance https://www.progressivecommercial.com/coverages/trailer-interchange/), file a clam.

required clearance would mean enough space for the trailer to go on trhough with out damage hopefully doing the job intended.
is use of a scraper common at said shipper / customer ? is set up for use like a scale? -
Yes its common. If there is snow on top, you go under and clean it off.
Its there for us to use. -

The cost really is about $1500. You would have to pay the $5000 anyway ....

i really would have liked to side with the o/p on this one one but with the pictures i would say 100% driver error.
as far a whole roof replacement i think i would want to see some proof why the entire roof needed to be replaced i think this might fall into being worth while to file a insurance claim for and in that case id leave it to them to battle that out. -
@gokiddogo the total bill including hst came to 7300. It saves some cash with insurance claim.

Spoke the leasing company of the trailer and they said it couldnt be straightened out becusse there would be a buckle and weaken the strenght of the trailer.
