I know everyone has an opinion on this. I'm not looking for your opinion on standard vs automatic so take it elsewhere.

Unfortunately due to many years in public safety and the destruction of my knees and back, driving standard is not a very valid option. Does anyone know of companies that have automatics? Currently live in the Philadelphia area. Any companies are good but preferably Regional/OTR.

EDIT: Worth mentioning I'm willing to travel (obviously) so long as PA is in the hiring area

    Thanks in advance.

Best to call any company you're interested in and ask; the reason being so many companies are switching to automatics it's hard to keep up with them. You may also want companies that are "driver no-touch" freight.
I think Abilene Motor Express is switching to automatics and they also have Northeast regional or OTR, your choice.

@MrEd - does Britton Transport have automatic transmissions? Reefer division?

Companies that hired, most of them put you through a physical test. If your knees and back are not well, you might have a problem.

    MrEd Thanks this.

Britton Transport has all automatics. Van/reefer division and flatbed division. If Philly is in the hiring area, it would probably only be the van division. But I'm sure with the physical limitations you mentioned, OP, you wouldn't be interested in flatbed anyway. Contact info for them is on the website.

I agree with diesel dave. My back hurts after a long day driving. My stepdad had to quit driving due to back trouble. Just can't sit for long periods of time any more. Good luck OP. Maybe this is something that will get better for you over time.

Abilene has an all automatic fleet, has for years. We run to the NE a lot even if you aren't a "NE regional" driver. I'm OTR and currently sitting in NJ about 70 miles from Philadelphia. 2 other company trucks next to me at this consignee as we come here multiple times a day.

For the record there is an agility test when you do your physical. Nothing crazy, just want to make sure you can deal with climbing in and out of the cab and also the trailer as it needs to be swept by the driver. You do the physical locally before you even come to orientation so no danger of a wasted journey to Richmond.

From my understanding "unless special ordered".... most mfg.'s are producing all autos. as of the start of this year.

Kinda like automobiles have been the past few years; special order for a stick shift.

@Redtwin - does Abilene have refrigerators or anything else for driver comfort?

Maverick has all automatic and I'm pretty sure you are in their hiring area for all their fleets, Temp control, flatbed, and Glass.
