it was a terrible experience one that never wish to go through again. im from the old school camp. whatever happened to going to work on time, doing, your job and as long as you weren't doing anything illegal, committing theft, or getting intoxicated on the job you got left alone. i lost my job back in july and im still dealing with this crap. its mentally and physically draining. it causes me depression, and im tired of it. the day i left for werner i actually cried. i felt like i was having my left arm forcibly removed. i had NO desire to leave my wife of 12 years home alone. my son had to go to my mother every day. he has not known normalcy since. this place has other issues. the drivers that deliver milk are also not allowed to smoke. they smoke in their trucks in the bay with open milk tankers. you can sometimes smell it. that general manager was nothing short of a snowflake. i personally hate the man and the grief that he has cause me and my family. i would love the chance to sucker punch him right in the face.

the day i got fired, the last words i said to my boss; this has to be the dumbest reason anyone has ever been terminated in the history of job termination.

the other issue, people loose jobs. the economy needs to have better paying jobs to replace them. i was lucky to land an interview for a job starting at $14 and somehow i should be thrilled its higher then almost everything else around here. its also $5 less then i made previously. i have to come to grips, if i want a quality of life im never going to make what i made.

my wife works at a hospital, they have a mental health unit. yesterday a patient came to the hospital that attempted to commit suicide. he lost his job and decided life wasnt worth living anymore. he slit his wrists, but according to my wife he didnt do it right and the attempt failed. how sad, i know exactly what it is like to live with that level of depression caused by job loss.

If you keep cdl and endorsements current make sure you keep dot physical current....depends on how long out of truck, probably end up doing a refresher course with trainer if out too long

personally the fact i wasnt even allowed to go and vape in my car was the last straw. who am i hurting by going to my car and vaping on my own break. you cant even prove im hurting myself. at that point it became nothing more then we want to control you. im there to do a job and do it better then anyone else, but im not there for them to try to control my personal and legal habits.

the poetic justice off all of this, the guy that replaced me is useless and lazy. i still keep in touch with one of my former co-workers through facebook. these jerks got what they had coming to them.

when i started at this place the plant was not open yet. i was one of the first employees, brought in the first trucks and received the first milk. i came to them with multiple years of knowledge on how everything worked. they hired me because i knew the industry and what needed to be done. in short they used me and when the plant got running i didnt fit their little "mold" so they threw me a away with the weekly trash. i feel very used. going there was a HUGE mistake

@ad356 I'm so sorry about your bad experience; have no experience with the company. Also sorry we got off on the vape thing; Boat is our resident vape guru. Let me tell you something else; holding your CDL makes you attractive to local barns (terminals) of any and/or many companies, to possibly get in to dispatch. It's not for all, it's for some, it's not for many. I was offered that position a few moons ago, because my wife is / am /are / was / were (lol) an English teacher, and has taught me a thing or two regarding grammar, professionalism, etc ... in the last 20 plus years. Having your CDL current makes that entirely possible. I despise that side of the fence, but.... somebody has to do it!!

i get this, but if i have no intention of driving a commercial vehicle, what is the purpose of keeping my physical current? any company that might hire me in the future would give a physical anyways. all just a money grab

Good luck to you. Personally, I wouldn't go otr and miss my little ones growing up unless there was no other option. If you do stop driving, you should go to your drivers license office and change you medical card to "excepted intrastate". That way you can keep your CDL active without paying for another physical when yours run out.

Man, keep the faith. This is what we all went throught when we first started. If you can make it a year or so on the road and keep your record spotless, things will get better. The plan then should be to get a local job. Along the way, try to get all the endorsements that you can. That alone will help you be in a position to take a job that works for YOU....

The medical goes hand in hand in hand with the license. Don't renew your medical, the CDL reverts to a class C. You no longer have a CDL.

I spent almost 3 years holding on to my Class-A between the date I last drove and the date I surrendered it to the State of New Mexico MVD. I paid to renew my hazmat and I paid to renew my DOT physical during that time. I also spent over a year in a totally different industry and managed a promotion during that time - that was the point I decided to drop my CDL. It was to the point where I was spending money to keep something I had no desire nor intention of using again.

The circumstances surrounding my case were rather unique and while I won't go into detail about them in this thread, you find a couple posts on the subject. Anyway, in the majority of cases holding on to your CDL as a "backup plan" does make sense unless you know for a fact that you will not ever use it.
