I posted on the Garage section but not much feedback. Anyways question for those in the know. Looking at a new Freightliner Cascadia. Spec'd with the DT12 OD transmission, 2.85 rears and 505HP. My question is since I rarely haul above 30k or so I don't need the truck turned up to 505HP. I asked the salesperson about turning it down to 400 - 455 or so as a fuel saving measure and he said it "wasn't advised" although I couldn't get him to elaborate on that.
I was under the impression that raising / lowering the HP settings was a fairly straightforward adjustment with the shop computer. With this combo is there anything else I need to be considering? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't change a thing. With your transmission and rear ends in order to run properly you need to have the proper torque and horse power. I have a 500 hp with 2.64 rears 2050 ft/lbs torque. It dose the job but wouldn't want any less hp.
Dave_in_AZ and bzinger Thank this. -
I bet it doesn't feel like you've got 2050 uphill with those rears?.. but you can probably do 85mph on flats without much fuzz.
-
Your right I still do around 45 mph up the mountains in California fully loaded turn 1150 at 60 mph get an average of 7.8 mpg
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Btw it's a D16 not the 13.

7.8 sounds very nice. Manual or auto? You said D16 so I guess Volvo i-shift?
-
Yeah I shift. I'm happy with it. The truck was spec'ed for heavy haul not sure why with a 2.64 rear but I only haul 80k gross. Probably get better milage with a D13
