Because I spent 10 years in another industry. I'm perfectly self reliant. Now that you mention it, I was going to ask the school if I could do more than the 3 weeks for the CDL A license and see if they offer double / triple / hazmat etc.

No matter what school you go to make sure when you take your test for the permit you test for all the endorsements, pretty simple really. You may never pull doubles triples or tankers but its a simple written test for each one.
If your going to a school in the state you live, just study by using the test questions on this site and a book from your DMV and go down now and get the permit and all the endorsements .

Thanks both of ya'll! I've been wondering how best to study and was looking around for practice tests (I've played with the ones here).

There's a $10 app on the iTunes store for CDL A school practice but it seems like a scam when I can just get the book from the DMV.

You MUST finance training, meaning you could pay cash up front and they won't take it?

I guess if I had that kind of cash, they would take it. But I've since spoken to them and found out their reason for that - which was to get me into training "faster". I told them I don't have a cosigner, and that I'll have to wait for my VA letter to come in guaranteeing payment.

I personally wouldn't pay for an app when all the info is free and readily available. Take the practice tests online and most importantly go get the actual book at the DMV and take the practice tests in it. It will be closer to the actual questions on the test in your state. You tube can also help. In my opinion you should have your permit in hand before starting school. Why waste classroom time on something you can do on your own.
