It's a 'conform or be cast out' situation. -
Toomanybikes and X-Country Thank this.

No cameras at Frito. Some of our guys have been saying that they can access the camera on the Peoplenet tablet, but the driver-facing thing (I think) is a brightness sensor for the auto-dim function. At any rate, most of them are taped over.
Our terminal manager said they'd rather spend money on finding, hiring and retaining quality drivers than paying for expensive camera systems and annoying good drivers/babysitting bad ones. To him, driver-facing cameras were just throwing good money out the window. -
...and potentially running off good, reliable drivers who might otherwise be willing to work there.

What a refreshing point of view that is! Some people in management still have brains!

Just read a memo today that all 2018 models will be equipped with OnGuard or it's equivalent. Hooray. I don't like the idea of any operating aspect being removed from my control, but at least there will be plenty of older models to drive. Still no cameras. There would be a riot over that one.X-Country Thanks this. -
Like every other new thing that comes along and "is the greatest thing since sliced bread," I suppose the day will come when every vehicle, no matter the size, has it. And eventually, even the old dinosaurs get used to it. They may not actually like it, but they get used to it.
