Well left orientation on sat started with trainer on monday, already got my 350 for orientation last week. How many companys pay newbie drivers for the week of orientation/training? My trainer isnt for the thin skinned types. I could see how some people would have a problem with him, he isnt the warmest individual and runs hard. But I am prior military, and I was raised old school by my dad, so I know how to take him. So far so good, 6 days down, 15 to go. I dont know if all drivers get loads like him, but this week we sat for 3 hrs once waiting for a load, the rest of the time we were driving or taking our rest, one live load, and one live unload rest were drop and hook. Avg trip length was about 300 miles, with one 770.

Keep me posted I am interested in them. I have completed 2 weeks of truck driver training school & had one of there recruiters come by are school today I liked what he said & asked him a few questions. They have a terminal 55-60 miles from me. don't mind leaving my vehicle for a week or two at a time with them. Better then driving to work everyday. Should save some money on gas.

I'm willing to bet my TSAM trainer is loved by his employer, but he is not running legal. 90% of the days we don't need to cheat our logs, but we do. The hurry and wait deal. I don't want to say a thing, but it's obvious if something happened it would be easy to blow up OUR logs (macros, signatures, cameras etc.) what should I do? I think being a new driver I should do everything by the book right?

It's not 21 days with a trainer. It's 21 driving days. Also driving for 2-3 hours does not count. It's 21 days of serious driving determined by the student Mgr.

That is a true statement. The real story within the real story is, "...determined by the student mgr".

If something ever happened, you would be hung out to dry. The company would simply state that the "driver knows the law and we would never ask or require a driver to do anything illegal". What a load of crap! Those drivers break the law every day. Condoned by the company until they are caught. The problem is that there is no one to back up the drivers story. I guarantee that you will go down in flames!

You have pointed out just a few ways that you can be caught running illegal.

You , as well as everybody else, should do everything by the book. But we all know that it is not going to happen. Too much at stake.

These same companies keep taking advantage of us time and time again. Yet you all continue to accept it. Why? We all have no one to blame but ourselves.

I can't speak for anybody at this point but May Trucking - but my experience there shows they walk the walk as well as talk the talk. If you can't do the load legally, you tell your DM. They'll get it rescheduled, it will become "when you can", or you'll swap trailers with another driver.

If you work for a company that doesn't walk the walk, you should walk out

It all sounds fine and dandy but real life isn't nearly as understanding or forgiving.

What if its 9 P.M you are 200 miles away from your delivery and you are past your 11. Delivery appointment is 6 A.M. Mind you, you feel fine, not tired at all. Do you:

    1) Shut down and take your 10 and not be able to sleep the whole night because you are not tired and very nervous about missing your delivery. Then having to explain to your dispatcher why you are late even they technically gave you enough time to run the load. Truth is, eating and showering during the trip ran you past legal hours.

    2) Rewrite the log and continue on and make the delivery?
