Good morning! I'm from Central Indiana and I'm very new to trucking! There appears to be a lot of useful information on this forum. I'm hopeful, over time, that I can contribute as well. I have several questions but I'll post them in the appropriate areas and just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. Be safe out there guys and gals.

    Welcome.
Be aware that some of us are sour and crusty in our responses , but if you read deeply into it with open eyes it's generally meant in jest.
If you ask a legitimate question you will be answered promptly and with a lots of varying answers and an argument will then ensue about whom is right and whom has the largest motor.
This is a GREAT forum to learn from and a great forum to get a few laughs from.

Be careful.. and above all.... BE SAFE.

Rapptor is a step ahead of me it seems in his career. I've just moved to Graham, NC from Louisiana and new to the forum (2nd day) and I have already learned a lot of good info here. Ideally I'm looking for a regional route with a company that would pay for my CDL and maybe in the future go to OTR.

A couple questions: Is it possible to find a company near me (I've had no luck) that will allow me to have a regional route and give me a regional route? Everywhere I've read here says most companies want experienced drivers for those routes.

Is it difficult to transfer from regional to OTR?

It is "possible". It is unlikely.
Most companies need ROAD drivers, and will invest in your training with the intent of getting the most bang for their buck in return.
If you can swing it.. take out a personal loan and take the class on your own dime. Then you're not on any contract with a company for a set time to repay them for school.
A suggestion would be to talk to food distribution companies (restaurant delivery) , or beverage distributors.
Perhaps you could check with JB Hunt.. I've heard their commercials about regional positions.
The industry is definitely swinging to this spectrum bc the younger and newer drivers , for the most part, WILL NOT stay out for 2 weeks.. a month.. 2 months.. etc
Its never made sense to me why you need MORE experience to stay closer to home than be trusted to stay out longer and further from home in strange places that change on a daily basis.
Keep in mind.. everyone starts somewhere. It's taken me 30 years to get where I am. It will not happen over night.
    One step at a time.
