When slowing down for better economy a driver can save $12,000 or more a yr. There is no way in hell that the theory of "run harder, haul more freight, make more money" ever works out.

By slowing down you save $12,000. I haven't even tried to figure out how much harder driving a guy would have to do to clear that same $12,000 that you clear just by slowing down on your existing freight.

    2009 isn't that far away...

Unsafe driving tickets are about the worst ones you can get. If you were "unsafe" in a car, then the insurance companies will assume that you'll also be unsafe in a truck.

You're going to have to wait this out, unless you have experience already, in which case you may be able to swing a job with an O/O.

I drive for a local concrete company, they allow two moving violations, in a yr. As long as it wasn't over 25 ove the posted limit...

May better never get audited . Anything under 8 hours on line 2 or 10 hours on line 1 does not stop the 14 hour clock . I have put unloading on line 2 or on line 1 when I am told to leave the truck and go to the break room while it is unloaded . That doesn't extend my day . It does keep the hours on duty for the day reduced toward the 70 in 8 days .

Your math is flawed from the start . Show driving 600 miles in 10 hours at 60 miles an hour and a DOT auditor will cite you for a violation of either speeding or falsifying logs . That's what happened to U.S. Xpress in December '06 . Look at their safestat history .
Secondly , it depends on how your truck is geared and where the sweet spot is . My truck gives the best fuel mileage betwen 1400-1500 rpm . That's 63-68 m.p.h. .
Many carriers have rates that are $.85 a mile higher than Schneider's rates . That's why they can run faster and have trucks geared to run that way .

Uhmmm.... the <sigh> at the end was to indicate that the post was made in humor after AS's long post about not messing with another persons truck.

    Geeze...someone needs some vacation time!
