    Well I'm starting orientation for a gasoline hauling position. any info on fuel hauling would be appreciated, work environment(obviously in all weather). different types of tanker opportunities that are out there, owner-operator incomes, company driver incomes...Thanks

    Depending on where your pulling .
    Gas O/O Florida 2500 to 4000 .
    Hard to get a job hauling tankers / chemical.
    My 2 cents for you , if you don't click with it immediately, go do something else .
    Spills and contamination can cost an O/ O a fortune. It all falls back on you .

    Always Always hook up your vapor recovery when loading or unloading. In NY State the Department of Environmental Quality would skulk around gas stations at all hours to catch violators. Fines start at $10000 per occurrence, on the driver (not the company). If you were unloading RNL and PNL at one place without your vapor hooked up, that's $20K to you, driver, and nearly certain termination.

    Other states are either the same, or likely MORE strict.

    +1 with Tampa, if you're not getting it after the first week, gas might not be the industry segment for you.

    Usually you spend the first day doing paperwork and watching videos. Then you spend your first day on the road with your trainer, observing what he/she does. Second day you start driving and loading under the watchful eye of your trainer. The rest of the week this is how you'll run. Pay attention and ask about ANYTHING you don't understand.
    By the second week, you should be doing the job and just chauffeuring your trainer around. Sometime during the second week, you will do your qualification load for the terminal mgr at each rack you load at. This should not be a problem for you, but it is a little nerve-wracking to have the TM staring at you the whole time. If you blow it here they may give you another week of training, depending if they like you or not.

    I drove gas for six years for different companies, and I never saw anybody get more than four weeks of training. So if you can't catch on in a month, it DEFINITELY isn't for you.

    Feel free to ask any other questions. Lots of experienced fuel haulers here. I'm pretty sure there's a thread for it too.

    Terminals are all crap..... low product flow , nothing gets fixed and everything is your fault.....Long lines because of all above problems.

    Rates are in the tank ( no pun intended) and most station employees don't speak English..

    I worked for solar and I enjoyed it. Dispatch was a pain in the dick but you get used to it . The pay was no good to begin with but if you're smart after a while you can learn to play the system and make more aka take advantage of the dispatch stupidity. And cat sdp is right about the terminals, long lines unless you're working on the weekend. Solar closed down in the market I'm in since we only had 2 accounts and when rebid came, Klemm outbid them on it . I make more hauling cookies now.
