It qualifies as my most memorable. It was also probably one of the most challenging.

Like I said earlier, I've had many multi drop loads that amounted to over 3100 miles and never seen the west coast. The last one I had like that was a load that started in Richmond, drop in North Platte Ne, Pine Bluffs Wy, Dubois Wy, Jackson Hole Wy, SLC Ut, Pocatello Id, then Calgary Ab and finaled in Edmonton Ab. It came out to, $1250 mileage pay, 7 extra stops for, $175, and $25 for crossing into Canada. Then I reloaded in Canada for another $25, went to Reno Nv, then bounced over to Stockton Ca to drop and hook going back to Richmond. It was probably my best two week round ever here at Abilene.

We also have those type of loads going to the northeast out of Richmond. It's all relative. I look at my weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly mileage, and overall earnings, so far after 4 years, it's good.

About this long debated NYC topic, we go there, a lot of drivers go there, a lot don't. What gets me upset is the drivers that I've had to swap out tell me that they don't go to NYC and when they hired on they told the company so. Really, so let me get this straight, you don't but others do, how about manning up and doing your part. Someone doesn't want to go? Don't hire on. What's not fair to others is we go, and you don't. I'm ok with it, just don't hire on to a company that's 360 miles south of the big bad city. Hell, I don't want to go and my history is open info. I do go, albeit maybe 2-4 times per year, but when I get dispatched to the city or island, I go. My attitude about Eastern Canada is probably the same as ones feelings about NYC. But I go.

I will say this though, I fault the companies that run up there. If you have 2 drivers at the window, and one is from Alabama, and one is from NYC, why would they give the Alabama driver the NYC load and the NYC driver the Texas load? Your only looking for problems, driver problems, potential accidents, or maybe the driver getting upset enough to quit. I've seen it here at Abilene, and have volunteered twice to take the NYC load. Not fair for me, but it sure helped the other driver.

This debate has been ongoing for the 39 years I've been doing this. It probably went on for 39 years before I showed up and will go on 39 years after I'm gone. With Abilene, I go anywhere they send me, it doesn't matter. I do understand other drivers concerns, I'm sure there's a happy medium, I just haven't found it after 39 years.

That is what I had meant. The most I have had was 6 as well. It was funny. I was on a military base. Each warehouse had its own address. They each unloaded a couple pallets. Not bad at $15 per.

Sometimes those letters get sent out by mistake. They sent me one but I was still hired.

50 for NYC. Heck. I'm sold on regional northeast they got listed. They say home on weekends and if it's NE regional I'm betting that means LOTS of nyc. I'll take it lol.

A pox on those chowderheads who park bobtail in an 18-wheeler slot and park all the way back. I don't care if you're bobtail in an 18-wheeler slot, but park up at the front of the slot so I know the slot is occupied well before I get to it.

Kinda like looking for a parking lot at the mall, spotting a good one that's near the entrance, getting close to it, and realizing that there's a motorcycle in the spot. (We call this phenomenon "kawashocki".)

    ALSO!

One day I am going to have to get myself in the habit of always checking my BOL for the delivery address. I use the address they give me in the load assignment, and about 1 time out of 20, it's the wrong address. I just spent an hour looking for 819 Thorndale Ave up here in the outer Chicago 'burbs, only to discover that the company in question moved back in August and is no longer at that address.

Not only are they no longer at that address, that address no longer physically exists due to road construction. My GPSes were very confused.

Finally looked at the BOL, and there was a completely different address (which turned out to be the correct one).

Thing is, most of the time, the address on the load assignment works just fine. So I never get into the habit of double-checking the address. And the last time I got smart and told myself I was going to ignore the load assignment info and deliver to the address on the BOL, it turned out to be the wrong address, and I shoulda delivered to the address on the load assignment...

I agree. I have even seen two bobtails in one parking space.

I hate it when there are detours and the gps units insist on taking you on the closed road.

Have you ever had a P.O. Box for an address? That was an interesting phone call. It never surprises me how many people don't know how they got to work.
