Do you Think that Wal-Mart Should Branch out into Truck Stops and offer a Small Grocery Store or even Create their own Truck Stops?

I imagine they will some day. They're pretty successful with the gas stations ie Murphy's USA.

    kinda a mixed opinion....

    on one hand

I hate walmart, they come into towns, with LOW LOW prices, then after competition is gone prices go WAY up.....I know this first hand, I ran a small general store in a rural area(for my inlaws), when walmart first opened 10 miles away, I compared their prices of items compared to my cost, many items were cheaper than my cost. 2 years later same or similar products 15-20% higher than my cost, my cost stayed constant. My friend who worked in management at a walmart, said that is standard practice, first year store is on a very low margin, once they lock up a market, prices creep up.

I also hate most walmart dist centers, I dont care about lumper fees, it is kinda standard in this industry as much as we hate it, but, I do hate policies like, no idleing(never seen it inforced but just the same), unhooking trailers, snotty people.

    on the other hand

Most walmarts have no problem with truck parking, and they are much easier and cheaper to purchase things at than these scumbag truckstops.

I would like to see it, minus the lot fees and idle air.

Ya they inforce IT.. being a dedicated WM driver, there are times when i run out of hours at the DC after delivery so i park over by traffic where im suppost to and i have been woken up in the middle of the night by some moron in a golf cart telling me if i want to idle my truck i have to leave their DC so i do and park on the side of the road Bobtail till my 10 is up

The reason for the no ideling is because all of there trucks come with generators so as a company policy to WM Fleet only they have a no idling policy.. but mr joe blow supervisor feels its his personal duty to enforce it on all trucks because of the vague ness of the policy

Yeah, some security/supervisors get on little power trips, I NEVER RUN OUT OF HOURS at a walmart, and if i did I would I ususually keep track of where I am and where I can park. Ususually around walmarts there are spots around on the road where you can park, if not I would simply fudge something to get me to nearest area to park.

I love the signs at walmart, "Due to agreement with Envioromental Agency, Walmart has a no idling policy" ,,,,,

it does not say "a envioiromental agency" or "the envioromental agency" , they word the sign to make you think that their deal is with a real GOVERNMENT organization, very misleading.

I was once woke up in a parking lot of a small truckstop.....11pm had to get up at 3am, knock on door......rise and pull curtain back and it is POLICE, POLICE say "ts has a policy against parking here if you did not buy fuel", I showed him my recipt and he said I had to go inside and show clerk....

Went inside and clerk has 10 customers in a line waiting for her to ring them out, cause she was out trying to get the 4 trucks parked in a 15 truck lot moved.......

Well I waited to leave till the morning at around 7 so i could *************** out the manager, I explained how her clerk found it more important to watch the trucks than the 10 customers in her store, further more, she felt it was the first thing she had to do when she started her shift at 11pm, 1102 i was woken up so she apparently called before she started shift. If she had waited 15 min and looked at the pile of fuel tickets the problem would not have been.....

Well I always get even,,,,,,I belong to a large group of people who LOVE to pester people on the phone, so when I have a problem with a shipper, store, etc, I post the phone # in a specific place and the place gets SLAMMED with obscene phone calls for the remainder of the day, I love it.

That reminds me of when I was training. We had dropped a load of asparagus at a produce warehouse in Seacacus, NJ. We dropped late at night (about 12am) pulled out after unloading and parked in their truck parking lot and went to sleep. About 4am we get a knock and it was the security guard "Awful sorry to wake you guys up, but the boss is here early and he's a real dick and wants you out of here. You can just pull into the street over there, I doubt anyone will bug you there till morning." My trainer told him "no problem" and we pulled out, parked again and went back to sleep.

I hope walmart does not decide to start setting up in truckstops....Truck Drivers would never be able to get in there from all the women in the town where it was located being there..:laughing8::smt065
