I was told once that all bridge clearances in the 5 Burroughs are under marked by 1 ft. I know of one by Hunts Point market that says 12 something, yet is on a truck route...to figure

 

Not sure about New York, but around Chicago there are a lot of low underpasses at the rail crossings. And they aren't under marked.

 

Bridges in all of NY are marked 1 ft lower unless the sign says "Actual Clearance".

 

I know how to get this thread back on track
