Continuing my thread but in the LTL folder. Hoping to help as I lurked on this forum for months before making my choice.
Anyways, to catch anyone up who did not see my prior thread here is a little synopsis.
Currently, 25 year old male from South Eastern PA.
I work as a Tow truck driver and prior to that I was a traveling welder.
I've been nothing short of obsessed with large equipment and operating as well since I was a little kid.
When I was 20, I was completely hell bent on going OTR did countless hours of research watched all the old Youtube truckers and was sold. Fast forward a little, I had a personal phase in my life that set me back. You can take guesses. Anyway, that shifted my focus.
So, fast forward. I've made the long drawn out choice to drive a truck now.
Here's whats happened thus far.
Started researching yet again, applied to TMC. They determined they did not want me because of an accident I had at fault from 3 years ago and a gap in my employment from about 5 years ago (Remember that "Phase" I had 5 years ago)
May have been for the best.
Anyways, I applied to a few different companies that offered me conditional employment upon me completing their programs. Some better than others.
Then YRC Reached out to me. Offered me the following.
.46 CPM
18.17 P/H doing anything but driving.
Obviously the benefits that are "Included"
running line haul out of Carlisle PA
Extra board ( I had a crash course in that with another driver)
I accepted.
From me they needed at my expense
DOT medical card. I had this but it was about $100
CDL Class A Permit with Tanker, Hazmat, doubles and triples endorsements. Total of $134.50
Hazmat background check and fingerprints Total of 23.00
They sent me for a urine test at their dime and ran my MVR.
Anyways, now I wait. I start the 24th.

Following. Good luck to you, I'm certainly hoping the once proud Yellow Freight and Roadway banners make a comeback as YRC. I'm a longtime Teamster (nothing against any non union guys at all) and my initial advice is to get involved with your local. You do indeed have a voice in your workplace.
gsmith2332, rabbiporkchop, skinnytrucker and 2 others Thank this. -
Good luck with your new gig. You'll be getting a better start there with much better pay than if you would've gone the other route. Their terminal in Carlisle is a monster and you should have many opportunities and plenty of work there.
Stage350z Thanks this. -
is that $0.46 cpm with no prior experience in trucking?

Still awaiting some word on the YRC road driver position I put in for over in Albuquerque. Had one phone interview a few weeks and still nothing. Yeah, going to try and keep it NM for the time-being. I've become too attached to the "under-the-radar" quality of the state.

Check me out when you start at 135. I'm also a Road Guy there.. For almost 3 years... Message me and I'll give you my number, looking firward to seeing some new drivers!!!
Stage350z Thanks this. -
With it being a Union Carrier they cannot bring a new hire on at top rate... 3 years progression. 85% then 90% then your 3rd year start is 100%.

Well, they finally called back and now I'm off to Albuquerque for a drug screen.
Stage350z, Bob Dobalina, Pintlehook and 1 other person Thank this. -
Finally after getting moved around like crazy.. A little confusion they are holding the class in maybrook new york.. 3 hours from me. instead of Carlisle which was 90 minutes from me. It's fine but, gave me a few days to find housing.. But it looks like I may be the only one in the class. One person couldn't get everything done in time and the other looks like after they moved it north it may not work for him.
Anyways, I start Monday.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.
