I had a ticking sound on my old truck with an N14 that ended up being a flat spot on a cam lobe. My truck didn't run rough though, it just ticked.

I'm pulling all three covers tomorrow morning to adjust and inspect everything. Is there anything other than the obvious I should be looking for in regards to the injector springs? If it is an injector spring can just the spring be replaced or will I need a whole new injector?

Whole injector. To check the cam and followers , the best way is to pull the rocker assembly and flip over and spin each roller to inspect. And you can get a good look at cam lobes also. If you don't want to do that have someone bar the engine over while you look in there.

Do you know what the torque specs are for reinstalling the rocker assemblies?

If you have the 12 point head rocker bolts with the thin shafts 85 to 90. It would be a good time to update to the 6 point bolts. But only 9 of them, you still have to use 3 of the 12 point bolts in the 3rd hole back on each rocker assembly to supply oil to the jakes. Torque the 6 point bolts to 100 ft lb. The reason for the thicker 6 point bolts is they clamp better and you won't get fretting where the rocker shafts sit in the head. Oh, almost forgot. Tighten from the center two bolts and work your way out to the ends of each assembly.

Thanks! I have 340a jakes and the specs call for .030 +/- .003. Would adjusting them on the tighter end of the spectrum (like say .027) make the jakes stronger or weaker?

NO!! I ADJUST THOSE TO .034 you don't want to go tighter than the .030 the exhaust adjust at.

Thanks! Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Not sure why I thought that would be a good idea. So adjusting them on the looser end of the spec range makes them stronger? I assume I'll have to adjust them more often though.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

No, it is only .001 from the high adjustment.
