Brokers are in business to make money too. The ones who tend to cut rates the worst though are non-asset based.... They have very little to lose.
Other than that... I don't care if they make $10mi .... As long as i get the rate i need for my business we're both doing good !! -
I set the rate you take it or leave it.
The single biggest mistake you can make, IMO, is to build a relationship with me, run me a few times, and then not pay on time because YOU the broker failed to submit all of my paperwork (carrier packet, ratecon, signed BOL) to your people.
I hate it. If it happens once I forgive, if it happens twice I forget (you).
ALL of the payment issues I have had stem from the broker NOT following through AFTER the work has been done.
I have a couple now, that could beg and apologize from now until I die, and will never get me to run for them again. -
The fundamental question remains whether brokers need carriers more or vice versa. Carriers with brokerage authority seem the way to go to win the game. A carrier with about 20 or more trucks already established with a terminal, warehouse and office environment should try to be a broker also. Shippers need brokers as long as the 95% of carriers are those of up to 100 trucks. If everything becomes JB Hunts, Swifts and Schneiders (seems as their conspiratory plan - with ELDs, speed limiters and more regulations) then brokers as such could become unnecessary.
