Received a certified letter, couple of days ago from Lousy-anna Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services, stating that my company (one truck) has been selected for audit.:biggrin_2555:
The letter served as 30 day notification. An auditor is supposed to contact me in the near future to set up an appointment date, and advise me what books and records will be needed for the commencement of the audit.

Just wondering if anyone here has been audited, and could they tell me:
    (1) What they are looking for?
    (2) How long did it take? The letter gave me the impression that there will be more than one meeting.
    (3) Your office, or theirs? (I'm in Lake Charles, they're 125 miles away in Baton Rouge.

Have you had your authority for long? If not, this is probably your mandatory new-entrant audit. They'll tell you what they want to see; only show them what they ask for, nothing more, nothing less. You can probably go to your state's DOT website and find more information.

Had it for about 5 years; last October, I leased on with a carrier. They, (ICC/MC), recommended I go into "voluntary suspension", (done with their knowledge and WRITTEN approval) which allowed me to cancel the insurance, but not forfeit my authority, in case I decided to go back to hauling for myself.
Maybe that's what triggered the audit, but I wouldn't think that would concern the IRP folks; I still secure my own base plate, the only change is that I am now permitted for the lower 48, vs just 5 states when I ran with my authority. Go figure :biggrin_25512:

Was that truck or another inspected lately (CVSA) ?
The inspector may have checked off on the IRAP box which will notify his DOT that the company "may" need further inspection/audit due to a poor roadside inspection grade

IRAP in CT is -an inspection repair audit program (IRAP)

Last DOT inspection was more than 2 years ago (knocking on wood), it was a level two.
I may be wrong, but I wouldn't think the ICC, nor DOT action would cause an audit from IRP; but I HAVE been wrong before. Maybe it is just a random selection, and my guilt complex is working overtime.

Sent them an email noting receipt of their letter, and mentioned we were trying to recover from hurricane, hoping for a dismissal of the audit, but "no dice".

If it's an IRP audit as you said, it'a a mileage and mileage only audit. They will want your miles records for each truck and each state. There will be no safety audit.

    droy Thanks this.

An IRP audit is to ensure you are paying all the taxes on your business properly. Time frame: depends on how good you've been.

Ive had one done, and i had to go to them, basically they want to see if the millage you are stating on your IRP as actual is being traveled, or if you are actually going over that. I ended up paying a $500 fine for going over my miles, even thought i didnt show him everything. The auditor said not to worry as 90% of the guys come out of his office with $2500+ fines :biggrin_25510: Just one more way they wanna make money off you.
