Just for giggles, we have a company policy that tires replaced on the road should be brought back to the yard.

The TA shop was informed of this by breakdown and they genuinely approached me to let me know that the company wanted the old tires.

Of course it would be entirely up to me to figure out how to strap this. 20170413_161843.jpg

The tire already on there was from a previous trailer and no, I didn't try seeing if the five would fit on my bunk.

I never took a bad tire back to the terminal when I worked at Knight. Same reason as you, not putting it in my truck and had a spare strapped to the back of the cab.

    MidWest_MacDaddy and Redtwin Thank this.

We don't carry spares, which also means the tractors don't have proper tire carrying provisions so it's down to the driver to get creative with the straps. I have had one shift while driving and get a hole burned through the sidewall by the exhaust pipe.

Luckily for me the exhaust doesn't get hot enough to actually ignite the rubber.

I had a similar issue with a pair of tires that were flattened to the inner braid. Shop guy in Richmond told me to bring 'em back. I told him the only place I had for 'em was in the trailer and it was bolted. They've never asked me to hang on to a tire since.

    Redtwin Thanks this.

I remember a few years ago when a tire guy at the loves in wells nv told me to put the 3 tires I had replaced in the bunk with me. I told him there was a better chance of him taking them home with him and setting them at the kitchen table and feed them.

Mostly the company doesn't want to pay the disposal fee. IMHO

Now that would have been pretty... Bobtailing to Richmond with six tires strapped to the fifth wheel.... LOL

Oh, Barstow, how I've missed you. NOT! 1 am at Riverside, which I won't make due to my hos and having to wait to get a flat fixed. But, was told run with it. Looks like 3 am-ish. Ugh! Still way too early. Wonder if they'll take it?

    Redtwin Thanks this.
