I've been hanging around for about a month now and have already posted to a couple other posts but today I pulled the trigger and signed up for CDL training at the local community college. I'll be doing 10 weeks of Saturday/Sunday classes starting May 20th.
Not sure what I'm looking for in trucking yet, I just want out of the IT field - like many others I've seen on the boards. I like the idea of long-haul and being able to see parts of the country I've never seen before but as a divorced father of 6, being "home" a couple times a month might be nice also.

Welcome to TTR, Dan. Good luck at school; make sure you learn the pretrip to a "t" . . . it fails many people that aren't familiar with trucks yet.
Cottonmouth85 Thanks this. -
Note he said divorced. He figured out the cause and corrected it
Shock Therapy, Chinatown, Hick and 3 others Thank this. -

IT probably pays better.....

It does. I did it myself, many years ago, in between trucking. THEN, I got RIF'd and here I am back in trucking. Once you get laid off, its hard to get back in to IT.nax Thanks this.

The "on-call" really sucked bigtime. I got RIF'd about 12 years ago. Miss the money, but not the hours~! On-call EVERY other weekend. Sucked.
