We are looking for some supplemental heat for the sleepers without going to an in-cab heater costing 800-1200, so that we can heat the sleeper for a few hours without running the motor.

I know of some available which utilize the regular diesel.

I would prefer electric, just to avoid all potential danger from gassing the driver while he is napping.

I've checked the internet, via google, and there is nothing I have found over 300watts.

I would not mind putting supplemental batteries on the chassis behind the sleeper, for example, in order to avoid running down those starting the motor.

    Thanks for any ideas.

I see alot of the trucks with the "RV" roof mount heater/air mounted on top. They are electric.

Is it the money issue that makes you not want the in cab heaters?

I'd rather pay good money for a reliable system than "cobbling" something together and risking damage to your truck.

Other than that, if I had to, I'd put an inverter in the truck to run an AC space heater.

the 12 volts don't put out any heat. sure not enought o heat the sleeper.

just get an espar heater. it's diesel fueled, mounts under the truck and just blows the hot ait in, you won't "gas" anyone

MM do you have a ball park figure on the cost on these? I've been looking at that type of solution. Know anyone that has one?

I've heard that these are more affordable for the O/O. I was looking at a different brand, but the same concept. I think the cost was around $2500 installed.

If you mean the Espar or Webasto they can be run any time you want. They are self contained units. Only require a little juice from the batteries.
