Going to be as honest as I can (minus the homeless aspect and all that) and fill out an application for western express tomorrow. They seen to be the most forgiving when it comes to this kind of thing. Just looking for anyone to give me a shot.

What I'd advise here is not picking companies that might give you a shot but instead applying to all the companies that you'd want to work at. You'd be surprised at who might give you a shot. Apply at everything and then see what happens. What's there to lose? And potentially there's a whole lot to gain.

Personally I had a gap in employment. It was not like OP's, I just didn't feel like working for the year of 2015. And in early 2016, my funds were going and I decided to drive truck. Applied at some places, got a bunch of calls, some companies (The one with shiny petes that pulls flatbeds stands out as the most disrespectful of the bunch back then and that's with their whole "we love vets" load of manure) didn't want me because of employment history and others did anyway. So I picked the one I liked the best out of all of them.

Actually I picked the one that paid me the most. Still is the most anyone's offered and I'm always looking for better.

Anyway. Apply everywhere you want to work before settling. I'd put real money on the fact that you won't be the least qualified candidate that's applied that week at any of those companies.

Exactly rite man, I think I'm really just doubting myself here, I have a ton of positive attributes and I've got some good references as well. All I can do is cast a wide net, be honest, so of there is an issue I find out while at home, not at orientation. I'm filling out a couple apps tomorrow and if they like what they see well enough then off I go.

Most employers aren't asking about gaps in employment to determine if you are hirable. They just want to make sure you weren't locked up during that gap

Congratulations on your sobriety. Dont go back cause the Game dont change.
Try not to worry about what might or might not happen job wise. I know its not easy.

I had gaps in employment as well.
My sister provided me with a notarized letter stating that I was living with her at the time and was unable to work. Which is true.
But that was all that was needed to clear it up.

It isn't the lack of employment that will get you, it is gaps that can not be verified by anyone credible.

They also want to make sure you weren't (unsuccessfully) driving a truck during those gaps.

Btw, apply at Swift; its better than Western Express and the trolls need the entertainment. They also have better pay, better equipment and far and away more freight.

Good luck to you. My baby brother, my best friend rode crack cocaine to the bottom and pulled himself back. I know your journey but I don't want to hear any more about it other than the tomorrow part.

My apologies. I'd wanted to write something, but it was either cold and unrelenting or it plead too much sympathy for the blatant bad (not all of it) advice here.

OP - be as honest as you feel you can be with a prospective employer. When / If you land work in the industry - I don't want to read in a few months that you were a 'victim'.... your locus of control should be internal. As I've read your posts you seem to want to blame external factors - deaths, breakups, & various hard times for your lot........ I can empathize with such a weak disposition; but I can't sympathize with it. So do what you can to leave the darkness out of your interviews - and may that fare you well.

Luck to you. If it's earned.

We all have been through bad times ,some worse then others.....but dont talk about it to others.....i could explain my story on here but thats to much for yal to handle! Haha...

Talking about it to others, definitely an employer can lead them to think, oooooo he wants us to feel sorry for him blah blah blah and ooooo hes wanting a hand out ,instead of a hand up....keep your head up and straight ....stay clean and prove yourself like most of us have or are trying to do as well
