Well sort of, it will become legal next month. The FCC has decided after almost 55 years to remove the 155.3 (I thought it was just 155) mile limit on communications. The other great thing was the elmination of the rule for wired mic, now you can have a wireless mic.
A little news, Skip is legal

It came in an email as a news release, but the B&O is supposed to be published soon in the register.

So wireless mics were illegal? So how did that work for those who used those ones with Bluetooth head sets

A couple of years ago me and another driver were on (not 19) but another channel talking and we were in Fernley, NV and we could both talk to a base station in Dallas.
That's the only time that THEY could here me. -

I'm surprised anyone was keeping tabs on FCC rules. Pretty sure the FCC doesn't even keep tabs on their CB rules.
Mattflat362, bored silly and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
I get a bunch of emails on what's going on, some of them come from the arrl and others come from the consulting group I used to work for.

Got to wonder how they came up with the 155.3. Think it's common sense to allow skip since it has more to do with atmospheric conditions rather than operator controlled items.

155.3 is 250km. I expect they were using the metric measurement. You are right about dropping a regulation that depends primarily on a condition beyond their control, particularly now that we're in the bottom of the solar cycle and won't be seeing much 10-11m skip for the next few years.
Grumppy and Broke Down 69 Thank this.
