Hello my name is Siba and I have been away from behind the wheel of a rig for over a year. I got my license about 2 years ago in 2006 I drove until september of 2007 so roughly about 9 months. I had a death in the family and that brought me off the road. Now I want to get back into trucking. Do trucking companies hire new drivers after being away from the wheel so long. And what are some companies if any that do that in California? I know I will have to start at the beginning again. But I'm really feeling getting back out on the road I need some money. I'm hoping that because we are coming up on the bad season of winter they will be hungery for drivers. Any advice would be much welcomed. Thank you.![]()

Your in the same boat I was.Try to call as many companys you can and tell them your issue and see what they said. Some may want you to take a refresher program,it may help.I was in the same boat, but I was off the truck year1/2.I called many companys and they told me to take a cdl refresher, but I only had less than 3 months on my belt, you have 9 months. The only company said they take me without a refresher was werner. You can try smaller companys, they may give you a brake.Hope this helps a little.Good luck and drive safe.

I went with maveirck when I went back the last time. All I needed was a CDL, no refresher.

How are the miles this this time of year? Can someone give me an average? I talked to a driver who said average now is between 2300 and 2500 a week.

I hope that I can find a local company to hire me. But if I have to go over the road again I will. I guess beggers can't be choosers. Someone on the forum was talking about Con Way Trucking, but I don't know if Con Way will hire people that only have 9 months experience. Then I've been told that trucking companies might say they require 2 yrs experience and still hire people with less experiences. I don't know? Maybe someone else on here can lead me in the right direction. Thanks Guys and Gals
