It is, depending on the company. P&D pays better here though.

I've done it, and I'll never go back to a night run.

Some say sleeping during the day is simply a matter of acclimation. I say no, it isn't. Some people NEVER get used to that. I couldn't. It's not for everyone.

This will depend on the needs of the terminal. Some places like to snatch the returning night drivers and send them out to go sort and segregate somewhere for 3 hours. Otherwise, 10 hours may be the max.

You can, if you take a day off. :laughing6:

The line-haul thing is still in my crosshairs and the lifestyle seems pretty good to me. As long as I'm home at least every other night and not sleeping in a truck, I'd do it in a heartbeat given the right area and offer.
So far, I've kind of chickened out on areas I'd thought I'd like to move to and now I'm just waiting for an opportunity to be had in a more warmer and cheaper cost-of-living spot.
Until then, shuttle these milk trailers and load whenever I'm told

40 hours? Nope. You sleep next week for a day when your logs force you to. Even then your bosses will explode your cell, qualcomm and probably come out to bang on the door, you aint moving yet?

It's a life. Not a regular workplace. You might work through the night. Only to spend half a day getting reloaded. You are never finished.

The life style will either consume you or cause you to thrive and stay healthy.

The OP is already a driver, so he knows about trucking in a sleeper. He asked about LTL linehaul probably because he wants to get away from that life you describe. In my case, it is just a workplace. And after 500 miles or so, I am finished. I unhook, park it, and go home.

Good money if you can stand being on nights. Usually 11+++ hours every day. Generally speaking ltl linehaul doesn't slow down much. It can be hard getting used to nights. Also depends on start time mine was 2130 or 2200 Monday-friday. So I got home near noon on Saturdays wore out ready for a nap. My family wasn't necessarily ready for me to nap.

Pretty much nailed it. Only thing is after the Saturday nap I'm still a Zombie. Don't feel right til Sunday. Kinda of sucky part about L/H. I go to bed around 4am on Sun/mon sleep 9-10hrs and get up a lil earlier and run some errands before work Monday night.

17 years night linehaul for me. Most linehaul will be nights. Pay is very good. As has been said, it's hard on the body. If you worked nights before, you should be ok. The week is a grind, for sure. Saturday is zombie day if your on a mon-fri schedule. I much prefer putting up with nights over the drama of day shift, and the people that work it. You need to find out what linehaul is available from the places your thinking of going to.

I've considered this type of work since I'm kind of a night person anyway. If I'm still working the same long trucking shift, I would want to live close to the terminal to reduce commute driving time on top of the time in the truck.

It might seem nice even if I just came home to a studio apartment, I would at least have my own shower and kitchen area.

One problem though might be the neighbors if they are noisy during the day.

I lived 45 -1 hr away it sucked. I think on would have stuck it out of benefits didn't decline and nanny state be. I always wished my run was a Sunday night start so I could enjoy Saturday.
