    I'm considering purchasing a Connex 4600 Turbo or a Galaxy DX98VHP.

I would like to compare components, like mainboards, drivers, and finals, but I can't find this information anywhere. If someone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Also, how much also how much current do these things draw?
    TIA,
    Rock

Both probably pull/draw 25 amps on AM the 98vhp Will pull about 40 amps on Usb/Lsb. Pull up Bells cb shop and look up each radio individually. He shows the specs for each radio. And his prices for each radio are Good /Fair compared to alot of CB Shops. GOOD LUCK

The 98vhp has 8 IRF 520 MOSFETS IN IT. THE 4600 Turbo has 2 DEI PILLS IN IT. The 4600 TURBO IS A BETTER RADIO IN MY OPINION IVE OWNED BOTH. THE 98vhp IS good for 225/230 watts max. Without you having problems with it. The 4600 Turbo is good for 150/170 watts depending on whose specs or meter reader you want to believe .......

Thanks. I had already lookes at Bells website, Clay's, and the Galaxy website. None of them told which mainboard, drivers, and finals were used. That's why I figured I'd ask in here.

Which DEI pills are in the Connex - 2290s or 2879s?

You might want to consider taking some refresher electronics courses at DeVry University if you can't distinguish any differences between two genuine Toshiba 2SC2290 finals and eight Chinese IRF520 MOSFET finals which can't be biased correctly to eliminate IMD. The 98vhp is a pile of garbage.
    Completely useless on SSB.
As much as I'm not fond of the Connex, I would strongly urge anyone to get the radio with the two bipolars over the eight mosfets
even if they are using DEI 2290's it would be preferable to 8 unmatched mosfets that can't be biased individually..

    refresher course about what?

How to build an RF circuit?

I agree with you, 8 is not better than two.

I've got to repeat this, there is a lot of 2290 knockoffs on the market and I just fixed an amp that was "restored" with new 2290's that the tech claimed was genuine but they were the chinese knockoffs, as I mentioned you can't tell by looking at them. The owner of the amp has three times the money into the amp than it is worth, I charged him cost of what I paid for the parts back in 1990, so he got a deal with me but the tech is selling this crap - no I won't mention him, someone else can, but you know him or of him.

The point is this, there is more to it than who makes the descretes. I have a few radios I've bought recently that have these multiple finals and they are jokes. I've got a few amps here that work well once things are corrected (like bias circuity to "fix" those issues you mentioned). This amp makes 6 that I've fixed that have crap knockoffs in them, I should be charging real money but I am starting to feel sorry for people, they spend money on some of the crap builds out there and think it is a bargain.

By the way, what's your thoughts on LDMOS?
