I would rather hear it here than on the phone from them, what do they do in two weeks of school in Fontana? What is the schedule like? what is the phyisical tests like? How about the training for 4 weeks or 14,000 miles? Trainers good, bad, old, or young? sorry for the many questions but it is coming down to the time to"GET R DONE'

Try posting in the Central Ref. Thread listed under favorite companys. More of the drivers seem to check that one often.
I did not go to the Fontana school, and tried to stay away from that terminal while I was with the company.

Fontana is ok not as good as Salt Lake trainers are kinda rude but you pass non the less.

Phyisical not hard but the background stuff is tell no lies and you'll be fine.

Some good trainers some bad but the 4 weeks go by fast and you will end up gett'n miles thats how you learn. as far as age both older is better as the tend to work with you better. If I were you I'd Salt Lake better training and more to do on your off time. Good luck. And I drive for them atleast for now.

Central is a pretty decent company to work for, six-pack is right though the Salt Lake terminal would be much better to go to then Fontana. The Fontana training yard is just a dirt lot and a trailer. The utah facility is a multi million dollar facility with hotel and restaurant on the premises. Fontana is kind of a rough area, and the terminal(shop) is small with not many amenities. After school and orientation, when you get a trainer if you happen to not get along then ask for another trainer, they will penalize you for this. Remember to have patience and be tough. The first three months are going to be rough, but when you finally get your own truck it will be worth it.

How does Central Refrigerated's training compare to the training the Swift gives, knowing that Swift is the parent company.

SWIFT IS NOT THE PARENT COMPANY.
Sorry, I hate it when people think that. They are seperate company's, owned by the same person.
Training is about the same, from what I have heard. 2-3 weeks in school. This teaches you how to pass the test. 3-5 weeks with a trainer, then solo.

Gerry bought Central for his Daughter from Simon.
It was and is owned 100% by them. Unlike Swift that was a publicly held company till Gerry bought it back.
They work together at times to save both company's money, but are totally separate otherwise.
    This is a LARGE distinction.

They will use you mostly as a team.
They have some better trainers that will follow the company's official policy, that says the truck will be run as a solo truck for the first few weeks, but not many.
Most will expect you to run 8 hours a day from day one. I would really try to stick to day driving for the first week or so though. Get use too it first, then do some nights.
