Below is the current issue I am facing with my CB.
OK just an update. Got the bird perch installed, re-hooked everything up, recalibrated the SWR. On a good side the system is now stable, however my transmission and receiving range are only within a truck length of me in either direction. So I'm not getting the range that I used to get which would've been a fair distance down the highway in front of me.
On calibration, the SWR setting is allowing for channel 40 and one to be fairly close to each other with one being ever so slightly higher on the SWR range, however not significantly much.
The radio check inside my CB is saying everything is passing a test unlike before
I am trying to find out what would limit my range. The antenna is a 1000 W antenna. And for those wondering my radio is a cobra 29LXBT. This radio and antenna worked amazing in the last truck I was in however since switching to this truck I have had nothing but problems.
It is at least working much better and is showing as being grounded.

Factory coax?
-
No, I switched out the coax to a new high quality one.
I'm fearing that when I was having major problems I may have hurt or damaged the CB not knowing the SWR was in the high 4s -
Nascar_Perry Thanks this.

You know you need to get someone there with a good antenna analyzer and look at the antenna before you do anything else. This will tell you a lot, then you can see if it is a ground issue or if it is actually the radio, I'm thinking a ground issue.
delta5 and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
While I'm never want to rule anything out, I'm highly hoping it's nothing to do with grounding considering I'm using the bird perch which screws right into the body of the truck. Just this has significantly corrected the problem that I originally had.
I am more fearful that I have already caused some damage to the radio as bored silly also mentioned. This weekend I will know for sure, I am going to put in the company's stock Uniden radio and see what performance is like -
Just because the bracket is grounded to the door doesn't mean the door is grounded to the frame
