Well after having done the trade show thing for the past three years with a custom motorcycle manufacturer the economy has decided that I'm now in need of work again.

I have put in applications to several different companies, Arrow, Lone Star, EW Wylie and TMC. I have a background in heavy haul and was wanting to go in that direction but I also have two teenagers and all the OD stuff is out many weeks at a time whereas TMC has promised me some regular home-time.

I have two years flat-bed experience in the past five including 125' long concrete bridge beams on steerable 3-axle dollies. TMC however says that I will have to attend 5 days of orientaion and 2 weeks with a trainer. I'm not against that if they hold true to thier promise of home time and money.

I have been accepted to 3 of the 4 companies and am still waiting on the 4th but as for now, I am leaning towards TMC. I have read plenty on here the past two days about TMC and Arrow but nothing on the other two.

Arrow will put me in a 4 axle tractor right away and have me on heavy haul as will Lone Star. EW Wylie said they would put me on a 45T RGN trailer but TMC says that everyone starts at the bottom and even though they are talking $15k to $25k less per year they keep going back to the home time (and I keep looking at the condition of thier equipment)

Lone Star has as nice or nicer equipment but they will keep me gone for 4 to 8 weeks at a time but the money is considerably more.

EW Wylie has nice equipment as well but again 2 to 4 weeks away from home.

Arrow - I'm not sure what to think, there seems to be a lot of bad press on here about them but that seems to center around the general freight flat beds and not anything from the 4 axle drivers. I'm really on the fence over them, they call me every day and seem genuine with thier offers but again the recruiter is a sales person and they are trying to sell me.

Any comments from others on here will be appreciated.

    Catalina-
I started my orentation last Monday and was out there till last Friday. I had to come home and meet with my DR to get some paper work taken care of for them because of some medication that I was on and they would not let me continue on till they had the paperwork from my dr. Then they would have to get the ok from there dr for me to be able to drive for them. But all that aside everybody says monday is a very busy day and yes it is there is a lot going on. u have 2 do the physical, and the rest of it is paperwork on the computer. There are some test that u have 2 take on the computer. Tue through Thurs is finishing up any paperwork on the computer, finishing the tests, log book stuff, and lots of videos. Other than that lots of people make it out 2 be very much like the marines but really it is not the guy who does the orentation training is a nice guy. There facilities are very nice and clean and same goes for the hotel. I am not sure if any body has told u or not but do stay off the grass at all of there facilities they do mean it when they say it. If u mind ur p's and q's, be polite and follow directions u will be ok. Friday is the day that u start load securement training. spend the first few hrs in the class room and then out 2 the shop to go over all the tarp stuff etc. If I remember right u will start doing the simulator training on Wed and some yard skills also. but with u having previous experience may be different 4 u. They have 2 different classes one 4 the student drivers and one 4 the expericenced drivers, I was in the student one. The driver one last from Mon-Fri. There were experienced guys there that were getting released 2 trainers on Fri. I am sure that there will be other students and drivers at the hotel that will be talking good and bad about the co but take most of the bad stuff with a grain of salt. From my experience there and listing to the drivers that are talking bad about the co it is because they are just that "bad drivers" and that is why they are complaining and talking sh?% about TMC. Other than that if u have previous experience u should be fine and have no problem. I hope to hear back from them 2 morrow weather or not I can come back and finish my training.
