Lol thanks! I'm at this screening place where they do your drug test. I passed the road test, the pre trip, backing up and all. Can't remember who said this but they were right, Heyl does have front facing cameras. Although I don't text and drive, but I'll definitely get something which can hold my phone so I won't have to look down. Anyway, ATM I'm very happy. The company so far seems very nice, very organized.

Tomorrow is my orientation so I'll post more as our days progress and since I'm fairly new to this world, kindly suggest any questions I should put forward during these orientations. Cheers

Glad you good so far Gibraltar. Hope you get it. Focus on the positive replies you got, they were on the right track!
Regarding an early reply about vacation pay not being a fringe benefit, nothing wrong with the employer listing it as a fringe benefit, even though it's a government mandated fringe benefit.

Heyl has been around for a lot of years. Good ones seem to last longer.

By American standards, that's not so good. Typical pay for an OTR in the States for someone with one year of experience is 40-45 cpm, and bonuses are usually 2-3 cpm. Detention is normally $15 an hour and layover pay is between $80-$120.

Some better companies start at 50+ cpm. By Canadian standards, I've always thought Canadians were paid better. Well, until the Canadian Dollar collapsed a few years back at least.

I'm gonna sound like an ignorant American, but why is one of the benefits Major Medical and Health? I thought healthcare is 100% covered by the Canadian government?

^Healthcare is but not dental. That you gotta pay for and I guess that's where Heyl comes in.

Basic healthcare is. Most other services are not. Benefit pkgs are important.

I am bumping my old thread but for a good reason. After working here for almost three months now, I've come to average a little over 2500 dollars a month with being away from home most of my time and that's after all the deductions and what have you.

I'm a year old driver now, I don't find this to be feasible at all. I mean I can make this money working at a seven eleven and get to see my children every day.

I'm based out of calgary. Can any of you good people suggest something better paying than this? OR companies in calgary which get you home everyday, local runs if you will. Thanks in advance.

Wow, that sucks! Company can't keep you moving? Who are your LTL carriers in your area. Other options are hauling food(Sysco) or aggregates, building supplies. There is lots out there but not sure what job market is like in Calgary.
OTR is not for everyone and your experience is not unusual.
    Good Luck
