    Hi!!

I've actually come seeking advice, but not sure where to place this, so here I am!

Firstly, I am a woman living near Atlanta, GA looking to get a CDL A. I'm engaged to wonderful man who is currently an owner-operator with Forward Air (4 years of experience driving both team with his father and solo OTR).

Currently I'm considering going to a local truck driving school - Katlaw - to get my CDL there. Afterwards, the plan is to team up with my fiance in his truck.

This is where things get tricky. Forward Air requires 6 months of experience, so fiance will have to quit there and go somewhere else in order to train me. We really don't want to go with the option of me training with someone else.

Is there anyone here who could suggest a company that could fit our needs? Takes recent graduates, takes o/o, and will allow fiance to train me?

Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Board expert on trucking company jobs. It's just a way of paging him. He should be along shortly. You may want to try the search function in the meantime.

As an aside, if your fiancee is happy at Forward Air, rather than making him quit I'd go do the six months at a different company with a female trainer, then join him later. Might be better for both of you.

Agree, if husband is content with Forward Air, he should stay while you train somewhere else, then at 6 mos. go with him. I don't know of any owner-operator companies that will let you drive right out of school; Triple Crown might cut slack for you, but don't know if they're as good or better than Forward Air. They do bend their rules on how far you can live from a terminal and don't seem to really care how far away you are.
Finish cdl school, then team with a woman for 6 mos. or at least let a woman be your trainer.
    Abilene Motor Express
    Covenant Transport
    Freymiller
Contact these companies and ask about a female trainer. They all 3 hire new cdl grads.
Freymiller ads are, "6 mos. experience OR new cdl grad." Some get confused with Freymiller ad.

    Thanks Chinatown and Oor.

We'll take y'all's advice into consideration. I knew we'd get some good advice here! :)

Honestly he wouldn't mind much leaving Forward Air and then coming back to them after getting me trained. He really would like to train me himself, but we'll discuss this course of action as an alternative.

Didn't print on this map, but looks like Triple Crown has 4 facilities in Georgia.

Would your fiance consider being a company driver for a few months? TWT Refrigerated Service pays teams .60 cpm split and hires new cdl grads. Each of you should be able to make about $1800.00 weekly there. That's $3600.00 per week.

If we were to consider company driving, the hard part would be figuring out where to put the truck in the meanwhile.

I've put forward to my fiance the suggestion of me training with a female trainer while he stays at Forward Air (he gets paid $1.02 cpm there). That way his income doesn't get disrupted while I get the necessary experience to join him.

I've looked into all the suggested companies, and Covenant is looking really attractive. Thanks again for the suggestion! If you have any more, it's much appreciated.

Get the hazmat endorsement. The teams with hazmat endorsement get the good runs with Covenant. Make some good money running teams for 6 mos. then join your fiance.
