If you run out then wait for midnight and get your "8th" day hours back. You do not have to do a reset.
If you are on line 4 a lot, then you might look at what you log there.
What the ELD mandate has taught me so far

HOS has been around a long time... Yes some mandate was needed to keep drivers from running 24 hours a day constantly driving. Pilots run HOS, would you like your Pilot to have been flying non-stop for 24 hours and then take the flight you happen to be on?
Don't blame the ELD Mandate for problems. It is simply moving paper logs to electronic. The "correcting" of paper logs will disappear.peterd and spyder7723 Thank this. -
Its not the eld mandate but the HOS is getting stricter and stricter. If there's one outlaw company or a few bad drivers the entire industry takes the hit and because of a few bad apples they make the laws and HOS more tighter. Its not fair to the good companies/drivers.

I would just run like you normally do and edit the logs when you get home.
Have you ever been audited. I've never been audited in the 20 years I've been in business. -
I stopped driving in 2009... except for the 30 min break the HOS have stayed the same, so where are they getting stricter all the time?
-
Come ELD you will not be able to do that... with the ELD you must retain as the company the original and corrected logs for 6 months..

As an elog supporter you miss the entire point.
It can be done 100% legal and make it home but I would need to run faster but with in legal limits to make it work.
In doing so i will sacrifice fuel mileage.
Money out of my pocket.
Also I can not believe that any insurance company or dot officials would state that it is safer to run faster.
I know I had this conversation with my insurance carrier and they said that there is no way they would ever advocate for running faster. -
Every time you turn around there's another new law or one in the works. The HOS,FMCSA will make it more stricter as if the drivers aren't on a short leash now.You may not find anything wrong with the hos but there's plenty of drivers and companies that disagree with you.But it is what it is.Hulld Thanks this.

best thing is it's not.

Any company would wish their drivers run 24/7 without any type of rules. I ran legally under the HOS without any issues. I had quite a few conversations with my dispatch, but in the end they are my logs and I do not wish to go to jail for any dispatcher.
You make your Logs they way they are. Can the HOS be changed for the better, why yes, but each time these rules go into comments, how often are you writing to the FMCSA and voicing your comments.
Unless the current President pulls the mandate ELD's are coming and seeing the comments all the time drivers are now blaming the ELD because they will have to run legal.
All it takes is one accident and if your logs are not correct then you can kiss your life goodbye....Tb0n3 and spyder7723 Thank this.
