    They pay me for trailer hunting, if it's running around a city at low speed I even get local pay out of them($12/hr). You just got to make sure to always ask for it then get it confirmed over the QC. When you get paid double check to make sure u get it. They will leave stuff out but when you bring it up they pay you. I think it's poor organization rather then intentional.

    Will agree with this statement... Dont expect them to hand you everything you expect... If you spending all day looking for MT trailers you need to say something...

    just to give you an idea of what an average month looks like with knight when you are paid daily, here is a record of my pay since i started with the company.. no personally identifiable information is included...

    money talks, bs walks. so here is exactly what i was paid for the last month or so, to provide a good average:

    YTD Information
    Gross: $2,524.93
    Net Pay: $2,489.86

    09/29/2008 thru 10/23/2008, hire date, 09/27/2008

    so far it isn't bad for one month.
    a lot of small loads, but has been my experience that a small load usually (but not always) leads to a longer one. also have had ZERO payroll problems that weren't fixed within 24 hours with just a phone call.

    That looks like around a 350 mile per day average if you started at .34 per mile and worked 21 out of 25 days and your gross was for just mileage pay.

    On even slow I-5 I could run 350 miles in around 6-7 hours in their trucks.
    I would want my average miles per day to be no less then 400 or I would be having a talk with someone about utilization.

    But hey if your happy with that, that is all that matters. But if I was driving OTR I would not want less then a 900-1000 buck gross per week.

    If you end up with a gross of less then 42k per year which is average for a experienced driver then it's not worth it IMO to do OTR . You won't get that averaging 3k per month.

    Since Knight has a sliding pay scale running short loads would not bother me since they pay more. How fast I got loaded or unloaded would be my concern at Knight, not how many miles the load had. 7 loads at 400miles apiece would pay more then 2 at 2400 miles each.

    Seems to me that the non-driving time for those 7 loads would add up considerably, and wind up hurting you more than the 2 long loads would.

    When I drove for Knight (about 4 yrs) I knew I wouldnt get rich, but there high point for me was, home whenever I wanted, and never missed a doctor apt, no forced dispatch, I ran hard the 4-6 days I stayed out and never caused problems for anybody, in return I got what I wanted, any day or days off I wanted/needed. The drivers that would do alot of whining there (always in the break room) are the ones that refused everyload and would never help with a local, they always want the LONG load or always want the load that go's where they want to go. They treated me right, but no company is perfect, and of course every load isnt perfect either and somebody must run it. I was that somebody every once in awhile and maybe thats why they treated me well there... Anyway, Ive been away from Knight over a year now, so maybe things have changed, plus I know freight is really taking a dump. Just my two pennies worth and DRIVE SAFE

    Taking home $2400 a month being over the road is certainly nothing to brag about. That is a sad joke. But heres a driver with allegedly 12 years experience who thinks this is good. But at least the 2400 is accurate. That is what I usually take home and I have been driving less than 2 years. And I am not happy about it. It is not worth it to me. And I dont even have any kids. I have been driving only for the experience, and its almost time to move on. Its post like the above that confirm my belief that over the road pay does not increase so much with experience. Because nowadays it doesnt have too. But as long as there is a fat, greasy, dumb super trucker, it will remain like this, and there are plenty of them.

    That is the sad truth. There is a lot of turnover in this industry. The fact is that there are more drivers just waiting in line to take their place. The companies know this and prey on those less fortunate. Why do you think that you constantly see them advertising? Is their freight base expanding or are drivers leaving? I think the latter is correct.

    The cycle will continue until we drivers stop it.
