I just recently received my CDL through a trucking school. I have been off and on driving 10 speed,18 speed transmissions and have been trying to gain experience OTR. I just recently today signed up with a company that holds ten speed International trucks, but they sneaked in at the last minute during the interview that a lot of the newer trucks have auto transmissions. I was a little let down, but am excited for my opportunity to drive now officially with a company that offers me experience. What should I keep in mind driving these automatics? My training starts Sunday.

Keep in mind that they all have the option of shifting manually. I recommend it when taking tight curves and especially on grades to go manual and downshift before both. That's pretty much it. Also when coming to stopped traffic or on off ramps. It doesn't always downshift fast enough and you're in too high a gear for the situation. Can feel like the truck is pushing you toward #### you definitely don't want to hit at highway speed. Slow down, manually downshift if necessary.

Otherwise they are great in traffic and also when climbing grades.

That's great I go in Sunday for training. It's five days. I appreciate the advice. Also new to this forum. It's interesting to see everybody on this! It's gonna be a 53' too so I'm glad I'm gaining the experience OTR.

They deliver loads for Ross for less, floor loads, hand trucked to rear then loaded onto rollers.

Automatics always seem slow on the throttle response during back up to me.

They do a lot of back alley behind shopping plaza.

when i was there i did texas only otr. they had 10spd cummins prostars and 57 footers. we did a lot of international paper, loads of empty cans, bottles, soda loads, misc loads. they had one dispatcher/planner who was the owner's son and practically got away with murder. he would change drivers appt times without notifying us. that would make us late and then he would gripe how come we are late. lots of little bs, nickle and diming. they had a massive layoff during the summer and i was one of the unlucky ones. had to take a bus back from houston to sa. filed for unemployment and these a-holes disputed it. luckily i had everything written down and the rule went in my favor.

Well I'm sure every city runs their operations differently but it's good to know what I can look out for and be aware of. Thanks for the input! Certainly going in positive, and seeing what I can get out of the job for my experience. Where do you work now
