I just signed on with a new carrier. Even though my medical was still valid, because I couldn't find the long form, i had to get a new one. I verified that nobody would be sending it to the DMV, and I would have to do it. Never-the-less, somebody sent it to the IL dmv, and I had a letter from the secretary of state waiting for me at home. Apparently the fax copy wasn't legible. There is a commercial only office about 10 miles from my house. Self-certification only takes 15 to 20 minutes. They put it in the system as you watch.
Got stripped of my CDL!

We have self certify in Washington state, too.. My company sends everything in and gives me a fax receipt; then, when I get home; I go to the DMV to physically show them the new med cert, and they just verified that they had it in the system.. Our Cdl's are good for 6 years each renewal; so I just wanted to doublecheck when I got a new medical..

When you go in person the dot gives you a receipt that they have updated your record.
