Make sure it is battery powered. Some are AC powered

You will have that smell when your truck or another truck needs to do a regen. If you did dome driving where you need to climb a lot of mountains. Your truck's dpf will be full and will create a very sharp smell that wont allow you to sleep. Before you shut down make sure you dont need a regen. If the smell still exists, find a different parking spot. Also if a truck engine or apu is burning oil, it will bother you the same way.

He is idling the truck so the solution is not to idle it.

As mentioned, the exhaust elbow is the problem, there is a fiber gasket that wears out and needs to be replaced, 30 minute job by a mechanic.

You need to be upwind of the truckstop pack or park off site. If you are in a low spot of the truckstop or downwind in the pack, all that exhaust flows to YOU.

A thousand hours exposed to this gassing in the sleeper trying to rest gets you killed. There is no point in trying to get your 10 when you are parked badly and getting poisoned.

Are your truck and the ones beside you all grass burners?

There all apu trucks ... so yes. The other day I stopped for a coffee and backed in next to a sick apu. I could smell the exhaust right away....pos !

Apu exhaust should be up over the cab... but no one cares about driver safety ...

    Dove and JPenn Thank this.
