I've had my Class B license since 2012 and until a year ago I only drove delivery trucks. Last Summer I took a job with a local Septic company and realized I really like driving tanker trucks.
Although I like my job for now I like to keep my options open.

So I was hoping you guys could help me compile a list. What other kind of Class B tanker jobs are out there?

*NOTE* I do NOT have a hazmat endorsement.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not much. Non hazmat like milk and pool water are trailer loads in my area along with dry bulk.

I've only seen water bobtails at road construction sites around here.

You might wish to consider getting your hazmat. Propane remains steady after the holidays unlike some other sectors.

Northeast in winter, they can't find enough drivers to haul fuel oil.

Onsite fueling of constuction equipment: I've seen several ads for this work locally, but these drivers were always the grumpiest ones at the loading rack.

I don't know how bobtail propane pays, but the drivers I met always seemed pretty happy. It's cleaner than fuel oil work, too.

I see those NuCo2 guys all over town, no idea what it pays, but it seems to take a LOT of hustle.

Thanks for the input! Due to the rural nature of my area the only other non-hazmat tanker wagons I've seen are water trucks for construction sites. I have thought about getting my Hazmat but the closest TSA office is 4 hours in either directions from where I live so it makes it a little hard.

I've recently found out that Ready Mix trucks need a tanker endorsement here in California. I guess this makes sense but why don't other states require a tanker endorsement for Ready Mix trucks?

Some Ready Mix companies use dry bulk tankers. California may consider Ready Mix straight trucks as tankers because of liquid cement, which doesn't make sense.

My buddy got a job at a local Ready Mix company driving a Ready Mix straight truck and he told me he was required to get a tanker endorsement.

I had to look it up in the California CDL manual because I didn't believe him haha.

    Good 'ol California...

Pass the hazmat at your local dmv. Security check might be sub-contracted to a vendor close to your location.

I've talked to a couple of guys who work at the local Amerigas and the said they had to go to a TSA office. The closest one would be Bakersfield, to the south or Reno, NV, to the north. Both are about a 4 hour drive and they aren't open on weekends and that makes it even harder.

NuCo2 had add almost 24/7 here. I've never read or heard a good thing about them, especially here
