Can I use exhaust repair tape, or that high dollar maxxforce space shuttle tape?

 

You can use regular high temp tape for gasket between the sections. That carbon dam in the exhaust pipe also most 100% covered over! There's your problem! You can just poke that out with a screwdriver, those carbon flakes won't hurt anything. The bore hole size is about the size of a quarter or a tad bigger. The DOC and DPF look typical. Should clean up nice. Make sure you antiseize all your threads for the sensors, clamps and bolts so it all comes apart nice next time. You can clean the underside of the doser with a nylon or brass brush.

One other question. The pacbrake was wallowing around the top pivot pin. I put a sleeve in it and jbweld it in place, would that also contribute to frequent regens?

 

It can if it is partially stuck closed, not so much open. When stuck closed you have a noticeable power loss due to lower boost and engine produces more soot.

Thanks. They said the dpf was 90% full. Put it back together, and test drove, she sound quieter, and seems to have power restored. Why is that doser valve gasket $49? I gather they trying to recoup money for the lawsuits...lol

 

Stamped metal, heat treated. I know, prices suck for sure. If you pull it off and it looks in good shape, I would reuse them. I have actually reused them several times before when we had no stock and never had a leak.

 

When the parts guy told me how much for the gasket, he couldn't believe it either! The gasket I tookk off looked good, still had black coating on it, which I was considering reusing. The service manager overheard our conversation and advised me to replace it to be sure it sealed, rather than having to take it back apart... sales!
