Partly to do with length laws, and yeah, they tow better. Max legal length is 53.5 meters or just over 175', and that's the way they get around it. They are trialling 'super quads' up at Pt Hedland at the moment, and they are 4 full length trailers with goose neck type dollys, they are 60 meters or 197', and weigh in at 200 tonnes (441,000 lbs). I saw one this trip but didn't manage to get a pic of it.JPenn, bigguns, Mike2633 and 1 other person Thank this.

The super quad. My uncle is one of the mine transport managers in port headland so I was lucky enough to see this early on. This was just starting when I was up there. Apperently drives the same.
@Ozdriver when I was running for Jamison in port headland. We were @205t loaded. 105t empty apperently the super quad has a 120t payload.

I was also looking to find out as well. I would see it as a kink. But for weight purposes I can see it nicely.
It's almost like two or three American Detriot B trains hammered together it seems.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Ontario Canada has B trains to granted there not like Australia LOL! There a little more watered down version, but they are B trains, but there pretty close in size to our doubles.

Just curious dude as i'm Australian too how you get to run 3 or 4 trailers from Sale to Port Headland there'd be lots of places you couldn't pass through with a Road Train without having to disassemble your trailers down to singles?Mike2633 Thanks this.

come on we all love a bit of drama don't we? I think deep down we know some of its just an act but hey that's why the movie business is booming we all know its drama and acting but we still go out and pay $20 to watch it at a cinema.

20?
The last time I went was 4.50 for a first run.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Once we get to Moama like in another reply you can roadtrain 2 trailers all the way to Pt Hedland or Dampier where I went. With 3 trailers you hook up at Pt Augusta or Bourke which are both around 1,000 kms from Melbourne so it's not really worth running 3 trailers from Melbourne. We go on the roadtrain route via Broken Hill so we're nowhere near Adelaide.

Not in Australia lol
