I live in the Phoenix metro area and there are 2 schools I'm looking at(please let me know of others). One school is AIT , which according to them, will only be about $200 out of pocket(but $8,ooo for the school). That is of course after the company you will work for shells out the rest I'm assuming. They are pushing Werner and Swift like mad and before anyone asks I'm not interested in either of those.

The other school is C.D.L. Truck School Inc. which is much cheaper and I could get my CDL in 7 days. Why is this company faster and cheaper? Can they be trusted? The people at AIT mentioned that school with seriously bad attitude, I wonder why. What are the benifits of each of these different types of schools? Also since this school is not accredited like AIT it will be almost impossible to qualify for funding/grants, or maybe not...I'm new at this school stuff.

My goal at this point is to work for CR England because my friend does and we will drive as a team. They also offer schooling.

Basically what would you guys do if you could do it over again? I need help bad.

I think it would be hard to learn it all in 7 days, I had 3 weeks and that seemed like barely enough. Unless you have one on one with an instructor and a lot of driving time. I think when I was done with my 3 weeks I logged about 15hrs road time and about 40hrs yard time if I remember correctly. I dont see how you could get enough practice backing and driving let alone the book work in a week.

When I spoke to the person at the 7 day school he said the training would all be one on one. I would have to come with my own DOT physical and permit. He mentioned that the school was mostly just the driving. No reason to "hold my hand" when getting the permit, which I agree with. Just wish I had the money to pay it out of pocket.

You would be suprised at how much practice you will need backing to get it down. Some people catch on fairly quick and some dont, if you have had much experience with some decent sized trailers behind your pickup may help some.

I used to work driving a goat or hostler(not sure of the terminology). Basically backing the trailers into the doors.

If you plan on going to CR England, go there and take the training.

I have 2 choices. If I go with Prime, I can get advance pay in school, paid training with an instructor for up to 6 months or 60,000 miles and commit to a year with them. So no loan to carry. My wife can ride but they have a no pets policy.

I could go to school, MTC, with little down. Get pre-hired, hopefully with a pet friendly company and train for six weeks. Then go solo and the wife and dog can ride. I would have a loan hanging over my head, but could get reimbursed by the company.

I would prefer the former, but the only way the dog could ride is, if I go the L/O route with Prime.

That's how, as I've been able to determine, is how I see it. Any thoughts?

Prime would be a better choice if it was not for L/O . Their training is much better . Prehires are meaningless . Do a search on prehires here and see how many members had a carrier back out on a prehire after they started school .
Most training companies are now requiring team or L/O . There have been too many posts of negative experiences when going L/O .

    RickRoll Thanks this.

Stay away from England . If their trainers aren't asleep while you're driving they are grabbing your logbook and making changes to falsify it . Run a search here on CR England and see all the negative posts .
