    Let me ask you this.

    You get assigned a day cab? or a sleeper truck?

    Are you able to take the tractor home? Walk to it in the start of your working hours and work then bring it to the yard or house at end of day.}

    If you are in a sleeper you are going to be gone a week if not more. You will find that the more you stay out of that yard and house, the more you make. At the same time you accumulate fatigue. It's a balancing act. At some point you are coming home. No furies will stop you from getting home.

    If you make a bunch of money like say 1500 a week net... after taxes etc who cares about those silly hotel rooms. cough up the 150 or whatever they cost occasionally. Since it's trucking related ask for and get a corporate rate with your company name.

    My post is pretty basic. But trucking never stops. Chicago does not stop either. Eyeball all those trains coming in from 20 plus railroads, half of them filled to here with mail, domestic boxes and express.

    Pace yourself, whatever your days bring. Persoanlly Im happy for you. Really. No sarcasm. But I wont do chicago any more than I have to. The last time I was up in Calumet two predators gave me a hard time and got knocks and knots for their troubles.

    Right. I've given up on explaining that LTL is not like typical trucking jobs, but suffice it to say: he won't be in a sleeper since he's not teaming, and the company will be paying for those hotel rooms if they lay him out at foreign terminals.

    Since it's Chicago, I can see why they won't lay him out. He can run open every night and be home daily since it is a major freight hub. It's not like an end-of-line terminal in a smaller town where it might take years to get a bid run.

    Ive done all sorts of LTL. Little ones, big ones, OTR ones, Local ones regional ones. In short if it has two or more stops it's LTL.

    I prefer straight through one stop for the whole thing and be done with it dropped off trailer and all.

    I have scheduled LTL pin to pin. Sitting in longhouse is throwback to the dark ages. Never seen that in 40 years. Our Wild Board drivers are messaged by 4 pm daily with routes and unit # via a magical device called a telephone

    I guess the point is to define that we are generally talking about LTL Freight carriers. I could make a list of these, but I don't feel like all that.

    My last job was at a refrigerated LTL company, but I don't call it an LTL job strictly speaking. I picked up and delivered small shipments and made several stops in one day, but I wouldn’t say I was an LTL P&D driver as we generally define it in this forum. In fact, my last company was a competitor of FFE, who I know you worked for delivering refrigerated LTL freight. Neither job is what we're usually talking about here.

    We're talking about networks of cross-dock style terminals all across the country where small shipments are brought in, consolidated, and distributed elsewhere around the country. P&D drivers doing their thing by day, linehaul moving freight between terminals by night. No sleepers, except for teams doing long runs.

    Oh Beautiful.

    Nice..... Very nice. The old style cross docks. If there is ever a temple of trucking and hard work, it would be one of those, with at least a single 50's white warming up early in the morning.

    Just one knucklehead's opinion here, but I personally preferred runs to other terminals. That way I could do my own hookups, without having to worry about the potential stupidity of the guy coming from the other end who does not share my meticulousness.

    Well at our place, if a new run gets posted it will have the area and start time, and you just put your name on it. The most senior driver who put his name on it gets it. That's pretty much it.
