Hey there. Well I need to land a job where I can be trained as I cant afford and dont have the credit to get a loan for a truck driving school.

My wife after 20 years of marriage is filing for divorce, and the big reason was she was tired of me not making enough money. I have stable employment now, but I know that if I can get my CDL, then I will be on the right track. After 41 years its time for me to be a man. I really cant loose my family over this.

So..I was looking at Werner Enterprises, but having read the comments on this board, I am very leary of them. I did an online app with Schnieder.

Are there any other companies out there that will hire from Illinois and train as well?

How hard is it to get a CDL permit, and how expensive is it?

How do I begin? I will do anything to save my marriage.

####, your in a tough spot brother. I know how you feel, my wife is more kind to me, guess I'm lucky. If you think your going to make alot of money driving a truck think again. At least to start out - plus - you'll be away from your family 2-3 weeks at a time. What would your wife say about that? I don't know what your doing now but maybe a second p/t job might help? Not many co.s pay for training anymore. I payed for my schooling and it was $4100.00, and thats cheap. Think of another career that keeps you home with your family. Good luck, Chuck

Last I heard schnieder had closed it's training programs until freight pics up...I don't think trucking is the answer to saving a marriage and I cant belive any first year driver is gonna make even 30 grand a year the way things are in the industry right now......If it were me I would stay home and try to fix the relationship....

Well I came up with another option, but in order for it work, I needed her to let me back. I talked with a guy at the local community college who runs a truck driving cdl course. It's 3100.00. I told my wife that if I could move back home, I could then save the money. She said, "Well that's not going to happen."

    So heck with it.

Hey forpetesake, I know what your going through. I drove until the mid 1990's the wife was mad because I wasn't home to help around the house and help raise the kids so I quit and became a janitor making about $20,000 less a year. 10 years later kids out of house the wife see's me not making enoough money so she finds a fireman to support her. So it's like dam if you do or dam if you don't. Good luck!!

Do what you wanna do. If she's leaving because of money, you don't need her.

Contact some of the companies like USA, Werner, US Express, JB Hunt, etc. Most of them have CDL schools. Don't let another person ruin your life. She kicked you out, so move on. She doesn't want you, so who cares. If you don't have a place to stay, then try to get on with one of these schools and see if they provide room and board. I don't know how all that school stuff works, but the first thing you need to do is take care of yourself and not worry about her. That's all I can tell you.
